We stayed here over Christmas - part of our party stayed in the hotel and the others in the apartments.

The hotel was nice, but the hotel room seems a little dated, but comfortable and convenient nevertheless, and nice and warm.

The apartments are about a 1-2 minute walk from the hotel, and are more modern, and worth the dash in the cold.

The buffet food was fine, plenty to eat, but a bit bland for the children (chicken nuggets, fish and pasta). Service was friendly.

Thomson were great. There were issues beforehand with a change of itinerary, but the reps and elves more than made up for it. Entertainment was fantastic for the children, especially the panto, and the team worked really hard (thank you if Thomson are reading this review).

Saariselka itself is beautiful in the snow. It's quite small so easy to navigate around. There's a toboggan hill near this hotel (turn left down the hill), and bars and restaurants nearby. The children enjoyed the angry birds play centre in the Holiday Club Saariselka hotel as a break from the snow.

The Thomson taster activities were plenty for us, and Santa was amazing - so worth making the trip. We also booked a ski lesson at Ski Saariselka (25 minutes walk from the hotel or 5 minutes on the ski bus which stops by the hotel).

All in all a brilliant holiday we will not forget!

We came back two days before Christmas after 3 night stop.
The bar and dining rooms met our expectations for a traditional Finnish hotel in an amazing and beautiful winter wonderland. Log burner in bar really added to the atmosphere especially when Christmas songs played in background.
Thomson entertainment in bar for me did spoil the Christmas atmosphere at times.
The staff were friendly and hospitable and overall with so many guests visiting in short space of time, the organisation was very good.
The food was in keeping with the traditions which some fellow guests were struggling to adapt to. If you are looking for fine dining then you had best make other plans. My only personal complaint was at times the food on the buffet was a little cold.
The rooms were clean and again to an acceptable standard. The rooms are smaller than a standard hotel room and are cramped if a child bed is placed in a standard room.
The beds are back brakers so didn't experience a comfortable sleep. Surprisingly rooms are warm even when cold outside.
Speaking to guests from other hotels I believe this is probably the best hotel you can book in this resort through Thomson.
With this type of Lapland holiday the hotel really is only a Base and it's position near the toboggan run is perfect. Also near to bars, restaurants and gift shops if this is something you want.
I would consider this hotel again

Wow we visited for 4 nights in December can honestly say one of the best holidays we have ever been on. Thomson were fantastic right from the start at Manchester airport. Resort reps and elves made a big impression on our stay and helped it be so magical. Hotel was great, food was OK (something for everybody ) you can spend as much or as little as you want once in resort. The toboggan run is about a 5 minute walk away and where we spent most of our time. The clothes we were given were great and kept us warm during our trip. Could go on and on but don't want to spoil to many surprises.

We stayed at the Riekonlinna in the town on Sarisellka as part of a 3 day Santa's Lapland trip in Dec 2015.
We took our 4 children aged 6-9 and stayed in one of the apartments attached to the hotel.
It was a great thing to do just before Christmas and the children thoroughly enjoyed it. Things that might be helpful to know are :-
- For a larger group ( there were 6 of us) the apartment was good but it is a 3-4 min walk from the main hotel. That does not sound much but you have to put on all your layers and thermal gear as it was -20 when we were there. Being in the hotel would be more convenient for meals etc.
- Our apartment had a sauna which was brilliant and really added to the Nordic experience.
- The food in the hotel is ok. Breakfast is very good and be sure to fill up.
- if you go later in Dec bring plenty of layers and spare thick ski socks. Thermal leggings and ski base layers are best. Also bring gloves you can wear inside the mittens they give you.
- Be prepared to spend money on the tours when you are there. As part of our trip with Santa's Lapland we effectively had activities from 10am-4pm on day 2 which meant we had time for other things, but it is a bit pricey (~ £100 per person per activity).
- We did the northern lights experience travelling out on snow mobiles and the husky heaven trip where you drive your own husky sleigh. Both were great fun and we would highly recommend them. Book before you go to make sure you get a space as they can fill up quick when people arrive in the resort.
- We were keen to try to get a few hours of skiing in while there but this was only available if you were on the 4 day trip ( we were on the 3 day). - - - With travelling and the flight times you are in the resort for less than 2 days ( with time zone changes from the UK you get there early pm and by the time you have checked in, got your thermal suits and had the briefing it's 4pm. We then left the resort at 10.30am on day 3 to make our flight ( although we did manage to fit in the husky ride before we left). This makes it a very packed time so the 4 day trip might be a better option.
- the big event to meet Santa was brilliantly done and the highlight. I won't spoil the experience but it is very personal and our children came out of it on a high ( our 9 yr old who was questioning the reality of Santa was completely convinced by the end of it).

Overall it was a great trip which which we will remember and talk about for for a long time to come. It's expensive ( in total for 2 adults and 4 children for 3 days plus the extra trips it was ~ £6500) but one for the bucket list and a magical place to visit.

My son & I stayed here over Christmas. Having booked direct with Santas Lapland, this was part of the deal. It had everything we needed, a little walk from reception, but that was good - gave us more time to walk in the snow.
Not far away are the shops to the right & a great hill for tobogganing to the left!
The food was good, some traditional which was nice to try, the the staff ar very helpful & kind.
The hire of our suits were included too, which meant just going out of our apartment & to the shop underneath. They made it all so easy, which as a single mum helped greatly, it meant I could put my focus on fun with my little man & not worry about logistics.
We liked the hotel very much, & looking forward to another trip in a year or so!
