The place to be in Sesriem

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 25 May 2024via mobile
Very busy but well organised camping within the nature reserve wivh allows you to come 1 hour after sunset and 1 hour before the sunset from/to Dead Veil.
Hot shower is here. Bathroom facilities are fine.
Each place had a lamp and barbecue spot.
There's also a tiny shop and a restaurant.

There are so many average reviews about this camp that I wanted to do it some justice. We found very nice and friendly people here. The camp slots are large, include water, a BBQ and some shadow. Bathrooms were clean, we always had hot water enough. True that it can be noisy early in the morning when campers pack to leave early to climb the dunes, and you can hear hyena and jackals near the camp at night. This is where the real fun is, and why we don't stay at home watching TV ;-)

The NWR camp sites are absolutely a great place to stay if you are crossing through Namibia. Clean, well organized, super friendly staff and very affordable. We've had a nice dinner (advised to make a reservation in advance to be sure there is food available), but do not expect too much of the offered food! BBQ grills with every camp-spot.

Three times the price of most other campsites in namibia, staff lack service skills and the camp site is very basic. They are so lucky they are the only campsite in the park because the head start to the dunes is the only thing that makes it worth staying there. It could be so much better if they tried.

Large campsite with many sites, each with its own braai. As this is a large campsite, there were several communal ablution blocks – clean enough but could do with more regular cleaning, and as with most NWR sites, none of the facilities are regularly maintained. Ha s reception/shop area, a large undercover restaurant and bar and swimming pool. Wifi at reception and restaurant areas.
Reasonably well-stocked shop and the staff were helpful with advice regarding climbing the dunes.
By staying at Sesrium campsite (the only camp inside the park), you can go to the park entrance gate (located about 200metres further along the road), and then go through the gate at 6.15am. This is 1 hour before the main gate opens so a ‘head start’ of 1 hour to get to the dunes.
We stopped on the way to Sossusvlei at Dune 40 (40km from Sossusvlei) – there were only 2 other people and us climbing the dune so it was very peaceful and a great way to enjoy the sunrise.

Room tip: Great to stay at this campsite for an early start driving to the dunes. The gate opens one hour before other people can enter the park.

One of the nicest places to stay & explore the dunes. You must wake up early & climb the dunes. It's an amazing experience. Also a must visit place is the Sesrium Canyon.
The campsite must provide WiFi access to customers. Not only at the restaurant.

Room tip: Please stay 2 nights & 3 days to cover Sossusvlei
