This lodge has a great location for anyone wanting to visit the dunes, Deadvlei, and Sesriem Canyon. It is right by the gate to the Namib Nakluft National Park. It is really beautiful, and the rooms (which are individual cottages) are large and luxurious for hotel rooms. There is a safe and a coffee maker in the room, as well as air conditioning.
The lodge has a small pool which is very cold, but that is refreshing after returning from the dunes. The map of Africa on the bottom of the pool was a nice touch.
The meals are out of this world. Dinner and breakfast are buffet style. At dinner, there are many choices of meat, grilled to order. There is “regular” meat, although I didn’t try any of that with so many exotic (to me) choices of game. In the two dinners, I had ostrich, zebra, oryx, springbok, warthog, and crocodile.
Our room had a desert view, and it was beautiful. There was also a lovely view of the sunset from the rooftop above the bar.
There was a small waterhole that could be viewed from the dining area. I didn’t see anything there, but I did see guinea fowl on the property.
The design of the main lodge area was breathtaking. The buildings appeared to be made of adobe. The individual cottages looked like adobe huts with canvas, tented tops (although that was on the outside. The interior had a regular ceiling). Each cottage has a small porch.
The floors were tile, which was nice and cool. I did have an issue, though, in that I stepped on a piece of broken glass on the floor (I was not cut, fortunately), and I later found another.
The wifi (available in the reception and bar areas) was spotty, but then we were in the Namibian desert to spend a lot of time online.
Overall, we loved this place, and I'd highly recommend it.
