Always want to stay longer. Fantastic location right next door to entrance to the National Park - the 60 kilometre drive to Sossusvlei. Fabulous rooms, bedroom walls constructed in canvas gives a real feel of being out in the bush, but with all the trimmings. Great bathroom with a good shower. Outdoor/indoor dining (your choice) with a gourmet selection whether breakfast, lunch or dinner. Wonderful bar area to sit and relax - beer on tap. Try a rock shandy! Activities centre well appointed. All staff very friendly and welcoming. Boxed lunch/breakfast available on request to take down with you to Sossusvlei. Secure undercover parking. Fuel station opposite. Internet only available at the fuel station.

I agree w/ the previous reviewer. We too had a terrible accident while driving a 2wd on the gravel roads 12km from the lodge. I highly recommend a 4wd as the roads are quite treacherous. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured and lodge staff picked us up on site.

All in all, the facilities and staff went beyond expectations.

The lodge is very well run by a super-efficient manager, Karl-Heinz, who rescued us after we had a horror crash off the gravel approach road (I would recommend only driving there in a 4x4 and taking it VERY cautiously unless you want to bounce upside down twice as we did in our destroyed VW Polo hire car). The lodge looked lovely for those that can afford to stay in style and has a good early morning guided tour of the dunes. We stayed in the lodge's sister accommodation, Desert Camp, which had excellent tented 'rooms' with wonderful views that were good value. We trotted over to the lodge for dinner twice and the steaks were the best we had in our entire month in Africa in Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Zambia, real melt-in-the-mouth medium rare stuff. If you're reading this KH, thanks again very much for helping us out in our hour of need!

Dear tpsontour, (I did not want to use your real name in order to uphold your privacy)

Thank you for your kind words and I am happy to hear that you both arrived home safely.
It is always our pleasure to assist in situations like these and it is wonderful to know that given the circumstances you still enjoyed your stay with us and the rest of your holiday.

I hope in future you will be visiting us and our beautiful desert again, this time with a 4x4!

Keep well,

Kindest Regards,

Karl Heinz

Stayed three nights at Sossusvlei Lodge during a 16 day Namibia self driving tour arranged by Lily at Cardboard Box Travel Shop (Windhoek). The lodge is in a great location for Sossusvlei park tours and has plenty of amenities. The tent rooms are fantastic with full view of the savanah and surrounding mountain landscape. The staff was very friendly and assisted with anything needed.

Upon checkin we were greeted by Ricky. The lodge was so nice we extended our stay and Ricky easily arranged the changes with Cardboard Box. The next stop was the adventure shop to arrange the tours. Heindrich(?) assisted with arranging the activities. The Desert Air flight piloted by Gerhardt over the desert was one of the highlights (once in a lifetime) of the entire Namibia tour. At dinner the head chef was watching for all our needs and Cecilia provided excellent service along with stories of her local travels. The food was excellent, patio is a dreamy place for dinner and the buffet is not to be missed! Hats off to the Chef and his team.

Overall this is a great lodge and one of the best on the Namibia tour. Well worth staying a few days as the sights in the park are simply amazing.

The lodges are half stone, half tent. The odour of gas from the boiles was worrying but seemed normal. Bed are good though. The setting of the lodge is perfect, right at the enterance of sossusvlei so in the morning it is an easy reach. The lodge provides a trip to the vlei's early in the morning (very cold in July!) and brings a wonderful breakfast with them. The evening dinners are extensive with loads of choice in game.
