A Nice Place to Stay

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 07 Jun 2023
We stayed at the Little Sossus Lodge Campsite.
We were met by the reception staff and found them to be extremely friendly and helpful. The reception area was clean, with a lovely pool and a small shop stocking essentials.
The sites are not under trees but there are large shade cloth shelters that provide shade for the caravan. We were given a "double" site, intended for two caravans. Two vans would have fitted under the shelter but would have been very close to each other. As we only had the van and the car, we were able to park the car in the shade under the shelter. There is no difference in price between the single or double shelters so ask for a double if you want your car parked in the shade!
Each site has its own ablutions with a shower, hand basin, and toilet. These were basic but clean. There is also a sink with a small work area.
We were allocated sites 8 & 9, which were great as there was a small waterhole in front of these sites. This waterhole was visited by Gemsbok and many birds.
All in all, this was a great place to stay and the drive from the camp to Sossusvlei was not an issue.
The camp has Wi-Fi, which only works at the reception and pool area.

Room Tip: Ask for a double caravan site!

This campsite is only 20kms away from main gate into Sesriem/Sossusvlei and so much more peaceful and quiet. Beautiful scenery around and if you lucky you get the site with the waterhole in front, which little creatures, and some big, come to drink. Private ablutions and kitchen add to the enjoyment. Manager and wife are really helpful and
Forthcoming with useful info on visiting the area. Small shop, pool and Wi-Fi also available

Very good, clean campsites with attached building for showers, cooking, etc. Also, your vehicle is covered by a garage like roof. Owned by a friendly & helpful couple & with a useful shop. Good views of the surrounding countryside & near sesriem.

We stayed two nights at Little Sossus Lodge as a base for visiting Sossusvlei and the dunes at Namib-Naukluft National Park. Accommodation inside the park is expensive so this is one very good option although there is enough driving distance until the entrance to the Park. It's not just a value for money but also a beautiful place. Our main issue was the wi-fi that was constantly not working almost in all our stay there. Only the second night we had connection. Our room was nice and cozy. Lodge staff was taking care each cabin so we had warm water for shower. Mosquitos was a bit of a problem every night so keep your room door always closed and unfold the bed nets before the night falls if you are staying here. Even so, we had to "battle" every night with the mosquitos. Despite this we had a good sleep. Dinner was included and it was delicious. Breakfast is very basic, on the limited side I would say. There is a small swimming pool but especially the first day it was full of people. There is enough space though to sit by and relax. The Lodge has a caracal as a pet, that they grew up since it was little, so it is very friendly and calm. It's like the mascot of the place. Don't be scared if you notice it walking around you. The surroundings are beautiful and we enjoyed both afternoons sitting outside our room staring the fields, while sunlight was turning gold! Sunsets at this place are amazing like everywhere in this blessed by nature country!

Our family stayed in both the camp site and the lodge and both were wonderful. The scenery is gorgeous and it is a great base to explore soussevlei and the surrounding area. Food is exceptional though the wifi never really worked while we visited.

This must be the best lodge to stay in, in an area with a lot of choice. The owner was so friendly and helpful, putting a huge effort into renewing the place after covid - new buildings, lots of new planting to bring green and shade. The dinner was fantastic, and the rooms lovely if a bit hot (because they are built of stone - a ceiling fan might be a good idea).
