“As Excellent as Ever”

Seriously - as excellent as ever!! If you like relaxation, vineyards, infinity pools, wine, nature, history, beaches, BBQ’s, a luxury breakfast delivered every day to your private patio – you will love Le Roc. Even better it is run by a wonderful and interesting couple Jhon and Valerie, who are warm and welcoming yet respect your privacy (also the proud owners of a lovely and very ancient but rarely seen cat called Flurry). Each day can be planned while you enjoy your freshly delivered breakfast of butter croissants, chocolate croissants, fresh fruit carefully peeled, sliced and ready to eat, plus homemade jam and everyday a surprise dish ranging from day old goats cheese to locally made dark brown chestnut honey! Then round off your day of sightseeing or hiking through the vineyards and hills, which are right on your doorsteps, by cooling off in the refreshing salt water infinity pool with a vista stretching over the fields to the Chateau perched on the hilltop at the centre of the local village. A glass of rose wine never tasted so good as enjoyed while sitting in the evenings warmth looking out over the countryside. This was our second visit and it was even better than we remembered and we are already looking forward to our next visit.

“Hard to beat”

This is simply one of the best value places we've ever stayed. Incredible views, a lovely pool which you can use whenever you want, and two extremely warm and welcoming hosts who make you feel instantly at home. The breakfast is good and the outdoor kitchen is very useful. The BBQ isn't the easiest thing in the world to use, because it doesn't fry a pan very well. Its generally a windy area and the outside cover can make a bit of noise at times, and its also very light so if you are a very light sleeper I'd email Jhon first to see if any blackout provisions can be made or a change made to the cover. Wifi also doesn't really work unless you sit next to the main house. These minor gripes aside, I highly recommend staying here. And go horse riding with the mountains in the background. Its hard to beat! Cathar fortresses, Collioure on the coast, and the mountain monasteries are all highly recommended to visit.

Management Response

Thank you for your kind words, we take any comments very seriously. You are right about the sun shade being noisy in the wind and a new ( hopefully silent ) one is on its way for next season. There are shutters on the windows which can be closed over should you wish to darken the room and, as always, we will do our best to ensure you have a great holiday with us.

“A Magical Place to stay!”

We spent a magical five days at Le Roc and wished we were staying for far longer. Everything was perfect from the cool white bedroom and shower room to the fully equipped out door kitchen all with wonderful views across the gardens. The salt water infinity pool was ours to use exclusively and we spent hours wandering in the vineyards behind the house. Everywhere there are fabulous vistas and silence broken only by chirping crickets! John and Valerie looked after us superbly. John delivered breakfast to our door each morning and it was a feast for the senses; beautifully presented in two wicker trays covered with checked cloths, there was enough for four with demi baguettes, croissants and pain au chocolate, fruit salad, more fresh fruit, home made jams and always a treat. One day it was day old goats cheese with chestnut honey and another day, Manchego cheese with home made fig chutney. Lastly there was a printed weather forecast for the day which was always the same, hot and sunny! We cannot wait to go back and can only say, book Le Roc, you will not be disappointed. One useful tip, stock up at Carrefour which you will see immediately you turn off the motorway at the exit for Ille sur Tet to save yourself the drive back down into the town as once you arrive at Le Roc, we promise you will not want to leave.

One of the best places we have ever stayed. Jhon and Valerie are fantastic hosts, provided a great breakfast and left us to enjoy the tranquility of Le Roc. They were always available to provide guidance and information when needed.
This is our second visit and we will be back.

“Peaceful setting - wonderful wildlife!”

We stayed at Le Roc for 5 nights. It's small but has everything you'd expect - and more, from a Bed and Breakfast. Breakfasts were delicious and ample. Le Roc is clean and fresh. The bed was comfortable and the shower/bathroom was great. Surrounded by trees and rocks it's in a calm setting...lovely to breakfast looking across at the pool and view towards the chateau. A big highlight for us was watching the wild boar a few feet from our door. A sow and 9 young....so exciting! John was so helpful in putting out almonds to tempt them and a sensor light to alert us. Val and John are discreet so you feel as if you're out there alone, but very helpful if you need information - or want to watch wild boar! We would go again!
