Just before departing from Sevilla, we went to the coast to a lovely and lively resort town called Zahara de los Atunes and literally fell into one of the most exciting afternoons of my trip. I was missing my mountain bike badly so I took advantage of an offer to bicycle to Bolonia with Nico, a co-owner of the Aventura Zahara holiday spot.
Seeking nature, history and a good workout, Bologna was our destination. Riding through the Dune of Bologna Natural Monument, a 30-meter-high formation over 200 meters inland and 500 meters wide, the Bologna dune is a stunning ecological wonder enhanced by the ruins of Baelo Claudia, dating from 2BC. We must have rode for 80-km…the topography, biodiversity of this marine environment is world class and breathtaking…highlighted by well marked trails and routes. It was late in the afternoon with a glorious sunset promised. Exhilarating to work out and bicycle in this incredible landscape. It was remarkable to ride the bikes along the rows of wind powered turbines! And on our arrival back at the shop, we all went out together and feasted on tapas from the world renown tuna festival. And finished in time to watch the Copa del Rey on the neighbouring bar TV. Altogether, a glorious adventure to which I will return next year to try the kite surfing. Gracias a Nico et Roccio!
Awesome beach. Highest recommendation!
