We've been to Barbados before but alwway stayed in hotels. We were looking for the comfort of a hotel with the convenience and flexibility of having our own space. And for the most part it was great! We were welcomed warmly and found the apartment welcoming and clean - we were soon at home. The rooms were well-appointed and we enjoyed the pool, beach and the local area. Walking to Oistins in the evening was mostly easy, though the road is narrow in places, and buses toward the Gap and Bridgetown were easy to use. The views form the main bedroom, living room and balcony were stunning and have stayed with us.

So what wasn't so good? If we came again we'd rent a car for the whole time. The property backs onto the main road and isn't very pedestrian-friendly, especially after dark.
That also means the 2nd bedroom is quite noisy. The dishwasher didn't work properly and messages left with the cleaning staff weren't acted upon. We did receive a telephone call to warn us a hurrican was approaching, but no practical advice or help in dealing with Tomas. Afterwards with no power or food no-one seemed concerned for our wellbeing: we were on our own. These were difficult time for the island we know. Neither did anyone thank us for the mopping and cleaning we did!

“Seaside paradise”
Reviewed 7 February 2011 for a stay in February 2011

My husband and I, along with our adult son and his girlfriend, have just returned from a 10-day stay at Maxwell Beach Villas and have had the most wonderful time there. The staff (special mention to Renae and Caesar!) provided a brilliant round the clock service and were extremely responsive, helpful and courteous at all times. The apartment was beautifully light, airy, clean, tastefully decorated and well maintained and as for the seaviews..........well, the description 'totally stunning' doesn't do them justice - we could have spent the whole 10 days just chilling on the balcony watching and listening to the waves ebb and flow.

The location of the apartments was ideal - a 10 min walk from Oistins, where you can eat the freshest fish possible (the flying fish is especially delicious) and is really lively on a Friday night when live music is served up with the food and everyone joins in the dancing, especially after a few rum punches. St Lawrence Gap is just a 5-min ride away on a reggae bus (12-seater 'ZR' minibuses), with lots of restaurants to choose from (Ship Inn and Pisces are especially good). We hired a car for 3 days (another efficient service, organised by staff at the Villas) and drove over to the East Coast to do some wild wave watching. Bathsheba was a real highlight, especially in the afternoon when all the surfers turned up to ride the waves.

And one final recommendation - the Villa Marie bar opposite the apartments, which is good for a relaxed early evening drink and a round or two of pool, draughts or chess, plus a chat about tennis with the charming Eve (NB the music can be a little over-generous on the volume sometimes, but we liked their playlist!)

In summary, an outstanding apartment in a great location and we hope to return there soon!
