Danforth Yachting
Reviewed 12 July 2016

We have just spent our second weekend at Danforth. It is a beautiful location on Lake Malawi. You could easily just sit with a book and look at the view all day. The hotel is small and intimate, and the hosts take a very hands on role in making guests feel welcome. The food is great, fresh and plentiful. Rooms are very comfortable, great beds and bathrooms. The highlight though, and the reason to stay here, is the water activities - sailing, kayaking, snorkelling. There is plenty of equipment available, and all of a high quality with people ready to take you out on the lake whenever you like and at a moment's notice. We travelled as a family with 3 children, and the reason we came back was because our children loved it so much. Despite being (for Malawi) an upmarket resort, the atmosphere is relaxed and very welcoming.

Room Tip: All rooms are probably much the same

We spent four nights in Danforth but wished we had stayed longer. A closed area with direct beach access and a beautiful view on Lake Malawi, Danforth breathes peacefulness. The rooms are spacious, clean and vey comfortable. The food is inventive, varied, of high standard and served with grace and simplicity by the whole team. There is a nice community feeling to the whole thing and we made new friends. Finally and perhaps most importantly for us who had come for the diving trips, the facilities, the equipment and the staff are excellent and will leave us with great memories.

We spent 3 wonderful days at Danforth. As we arrived we were greeted by Michelle and Howard and from that moment felt we were part of the family. The rooms were charming, clean and welcoming. The location unbelievable, right on the shores of the lake, food excellent, good variety and we loved the afternoon teas and all the chats with Michelle and Howard, we wanted for nothing. Ryno and Maike are the perfect team, ready for anything never intrusive just full of advice and enthusiasm. The boat cruise was spectacular and the snorkelling exciting, diving excellent and the braai on the Senza and then feeding the fish eagles made for a perfect day. The sunset cruise on Mufasa was something we will remember for always and on return to shore my sandals waiting for me, how thoughtful was that. A truly perfect holiday everything taken care of and all we had to do was relax and enjoy the experience.

Danforth Yachting is by far the best place I have visited in Malawi! Stayed here for a night with sisters and we had an amazing time. The service and passion of the owners and staff is impeccable - we had a warm welcome and felt like part of a family the whole time we were there. The food deserves a special mention! Every meal from tea to dinner was amazing. If you love activities then there's loads for you to do; if you want to just rest and relax the environment is perfect for that too. To top it all off, Howard went above and beyond to help us with the car trouble we had as we were leaving - our car battery died and he lent us one from one of the boats just so we could make it home safe! We will definitely be returning for another visit because one day was certainly not enough!

What more can be said about this perfect place? Everything is taken care of even before you can start thinking about it, perfectly equipped for any watersports, perfectly organised from sunrise to well after Sunset (especially the Sunset cruise on the catamaran), the perfect "seaman's fare" poached egg, the succulent prime beef, the subtly scented variations on the thai coconut-curry theme, the chutneys and deserts. So we must talk about the heart, the passion, the total commitment of the entire team into making everyone, Young, old and anywhere in between feel at home, all the time. Diving in Lake Malawi can be just gazing at colourful fish but with the expert explanations from Howard it becomes a study in animal behaviour, understanding who is doing what to whom and why. An early morning low number of species birdwalk turns into a story-telling academy, every activity in fact turns into a story-telling academy. A wonderful place with formidable people running it. The kids felt like Kings.
