“Friendly, Scenic, Peaceful, Relaxing holiday villa with Fab pool”
Reviewed 25 August 2014 for a stay in August 2014

The property has two buildings on it. The owners occupy the Villa and the Guest-house is rented. There is a 16m swimming pool located, and shared, between them.
We found the accommodation to be well equipped and maintained. It is in a beautiful setting with views over the sea towards mainland Greece from the Villa and towards Zante from the Guest-house. The accommodation has everything you need for self catering and includes a washing machine, as well as comfortable, wide, Italian mattresses. Air con is available in the bedrooms, and kitchen of the Guest-house. Our Teenagers were very happy to discover that WIFI was available, especially by the pool! The large pool is clean, well maintained and deep (6ft plus), with steps in from one side. There are plenty of sunbeds and shaded areas to sit by the pool and relax. The sunbeds were also good for observing the stars at night, and viewing the regular (August) Perseids meteor shower (if it had not been a full super-moon we might have seen more!)
The gardens are well kept and lovely. Plenty of lizards, geckos, cicadas, swallows (more than 3 rondini)!, plus Birds of Prey, and the bells of the sheep. The view, and sounds, of the sea provided constant interest. Some boats paused nearby for swimming stops. There is a quiet beach with very clear water located just a stone’s throw from the villa, down a rugged path. A shower is available as you return to rinse off the salt.
With our holiday there was an initial mix up with dates which led to our first week being double booked. Fabrizio & Ornella (The Italian owners) contacted us immediately and told us that although the mix-up was not their fault (or ours) that they would honour the agreement and move out of their Villa and let us occupy it for that first week with a move to the guest house for our second week.
Being our first time in Greece we were a bit apprehensive at first, but once we arrived and finally met the owners, they were so friendly and helpful that any concerns soon disappeared. We were made to feel very welcome, not just when we arrived, but throughout our stay. The owners are a lovely, fun couple.
We found it a perfect, quiet base, from which to explore Cephalonia, being 5mins drive from Skala and 50 mins from the Airport. The villa is about 1 – 2 km of off the tarmacked roads down a track shared with a number of other villas. These are mostly far enough apart not to intrude!
Even though it was peak season, and hiring a car was getting tricky/expensive, the roads seemed mostly deserted. Plenty of hairpin bends to test out one’s driving skill – watch out for coaches on these.
Too many excellent tavernas to mention in Skala and Katelios, both relatively close by. We did not have any “bad” meal experiences anywhere. It was our most relaxed family summer holiday so far!

“Stunning location , fabulous owners”

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at this location and unusually for us felt the need to give a review. The set up here is the owners’ villa and close by a smaller villa which is the main rental property. During the summer the owners Ornella and Fabrizio leave Italy and spend most of their time in the main house although that too can be rented. The photos for this place really do not do the location justice . If I were lucky enough to own it I would be selling the panoramic 360 views of mountains on one side to the Ionian sea on the other parted by a superb swimming pool. Breakfast each morning was taken on the terrace watching the yachts sail slowly by on the very gentle breeze that makes the heat bearable . There are open views of Zakynthos and on clear days you feel like you could almost swim the distance . The flora and fauna around is beautiful, as are the various wildlife including the tiny gecko (pascal ) that our daughters adopted in their bathroom. The accommodation is simple but well thought out and has everything you could need including the modern requirements of air con, wifi and sat tv. The tv lay dormant by our choice during our time so I can’t comment on that. The kitchen is well equipped with two fridges and a freezer as well as a gas hob and an electric oven / grill.
We have visited Kefalonia ,in particular Skala a few times before and from travelling around the island wouldn’t wish to stay elsewhere as a first choice. I won’t do the guide book review of the island and resort as I am sure the internet guides do a better job than I could. Primarily that was why we chose this villa and roughly knew where the beach close by would be. The walk down is as described about 80m but on a rough incline so unsuitable for the less mobile. The beach there is almost deserted and as per most of skala is sand/shingle turning to sand as you walk into the sea. Again as with lots of the beaches around here the sea is crystal clear and hardly a ripple. A perfect introduction for my girls to get the snorkelling bug and aided as it really gently shelves out for some distance. One slight word of warning is that there are occasional nudists ( just one or two per day) that wander onto the beach , most are quite discreet but as ever there are some exhibitionists which can make life uncomfortable when you have children with you. It is actually illegal here and the owners tell me the police do have clamp downs every now and then so hopefully shouldn’t be too much of a problem. That said there are numerous lovely beaches within a few minutes’ drive as alternatives. A particular favourite of ours was Kaminia aka Mounda which as a novelty does have some waves set in a wide sweeping crescent bay.
The area is beautiful as is the island and I would always recommend a hire car but would state that really it is almost essential at this property as it is accessed by quite a rough dirt road and a decent walk on top to Skala and any shops. It is tempting however to spend long periods of time lounging , reading , relaxing and swimming at the fantastic pool. The pool is a real attraction , about 16m long infinity style with a stepped area on the one side. It is always clean and most important not too cold , it was lovely just to cool off there for a few hours on return from your day at the beach .
As with most properties in Greece you have to be realistic in your expectations of what can be achieved given the infrastructure but any issues are likely to be minor and the owners cannot do enough to assist. Speaking of which I have to say it was a genuine privilege to get to know Ornella and Fabrizio and at the end of the holiday would class them as friends. They are lovely genuine people and if you are really lucky Fabrizio may cook you a truly authentic Italian pizza in his purpose built oven and tell you some of his stories as he has lived more lives than Forrest Gump!

“RELAX and birds”

I rented the Villa with 2 apartments for 4 people in the first week of June. All friends.
We slept very well in large beds 1 m wide each. The rooms are very big to be in Greece and toilets with shower very comfortable at last. Everything is extremely clean. The kitchen and the living room are first floor with a great view of the sea that is 30 mt below and feels at night the sound of the waves.
Breakfast and dinner on the large terrace with incredible starry nights.
We had access to the swimming pool shared with owners who are very friendly and ready to any our desire or information.
The place is hard to find, it is in the countryside by the sea, with birds, butterflies, swallows, a pair of vultures always on the hunt, a huge white night owl, we saw a Fox! The beach below the villa this year has been reduced by the sea, but between the beach of Skala and Kaminia -4 km!- we had no problems.
One evening we were invited to eat pizza made in a wood-burning oven.
But which kind of pizza we eat in pizzerias? This was something else. The lady Ornella has explained that it was just flour, water, salt, tomato and cheese. The trick was in the oven. It took 4 hours to heat it! WOW.

For lovers of relaxation and for those who enjoy a comfortable house I strongly recommend it.
Absolutely a good value for the priced paid.
