The property is just off the main lakeside road that runs through Lierna. It's 50 metres up a fairly steep hill. It is an apartment in a residential block, and the accommodation consists of a large main bedroom, a smaller bedroom with bunk beds, a bathroom and a decent-size living room / kitchen area. You get a good view of the Lake from the living room.
The owners (Carlo and Caty) live in a house on the main road, and they provide parking facilities there, because it can be tricky getting a car up and down the hill. The most extraordinary thing about the rental is the amount of equipment that the owners provide free of charge to make their guests' life easy. All the standard white goods electrics are there, including a washing machine. There is a full range of crockery, cutlery, cooking equipment, cleaning equipment, towels and bed linen. Beyond that, they stock the fridge with food and drink, as well as providing baskets with breakfast cereals etc. Nothing is too much trouble, although Carlo and Caty don't speak much English, so it can be difficult to explain what you want.
The one thing missing was an electric fan. Without air conditioning, we found it quite hard to get to sleep at night because of the heat. Apart from that it was a great stay, and excellent value for money. We had a wheelchair user, so getting up and down the cobbled hill was a problem, but not an insurmountable one.
Lierna itself is a bit quiet with not much to see, so you might want to take a car. However, it is on the ferry boat route, so you can get to Bellagio (quickly) and Lecco (slowly). It also has a railway station, so you can get up and down the East side of Lake Como efficiently.
The supermarket on the main road is excellent, opening in the morning and late afternoon.
Excellent experience at this property. Owners Caty and Carlo welcomed us and helped settle into the property, and even helped us with some shopping! Location is great- a small beach is only 5 min walk away, also with some great area for kids. The whole area did not seem to have a lot of tourists so will be perfect for a quiet family getaway.
Bellagio is only a short ferry ride away.
It is best to access with a car though public transport (train, ferry) is also possible-although this will be at least 20 mins walk.
The only thing to mention is that nearby restaurant gets loud at times in particular when there's something to celebrate- but usually things get quiet around 10-11. Something to consider for families with small kids.
Looking to come back again- grazie Caty and Carlo for wonderful experience!
