We arrived on a Saturday afternoon to the wonderful Alms House. Upon entering the kitchen, there was a wonderful welcome basket filled with all the essentials. As you explore the house, you wonder at the quirky beauty of the house...history seems to come alive inside. The nooks and hideaways where you can sit and enjoy the garden, the conservatory is perfect for reading or just chatting. The bed in the master bedroom is stunning, the bed is comfortable and huge, the en suite shower room is very modern supplies all the hot water you need.
The gardens are stunning, the roses are in bloom and the fragrance is amazing. just sitting in the garden with a glass of chilled white wine is heavenly.
Back to the kitchen, there is a dishwasher and all the cooking pots and pans, plates and glasses that you require. A coffee machine is also there for your convenience. There is a small brekfast bar for informal dining and the most amazing formal dining room.
If you are a reader, you will be amazed at the amount of books to fit any taste.
We only had the house for 2 nights but it is THE most amazing house to just relax and enjoy each others company.
The resident cat is also very sweet....please spare her a stroke and a kind word.
I cannot wait to return to the Alms house
Amazing scenery. Friendly village with a couple of good pubs. The Cuans Fish and Chips are warmly recommended. At the Alms House Philip had done all he could to accomadate us including the supply of wecoming staples such as bread and milk and an appreciated extra bed.
The Alms house is so much more than the beautiful pictures on trip advisor. Peaceful, historic, calm and comfortable are the words that come to mind. The house is fully stocked with everything you need. We enjoyed our morning tea in the sunroom with the soothing sound of sheep in the back yard. The Mourne mountains can be seen on the horizon. Castle Ward(across the road) allows a quiet walk at sunset or dawn (no crowds). It is handy to Downpatrick and the site of St. Patrick's grave. Strangford Loch is down the road and has a variety of wonderful pubs and history to discover. Belfast is an easy drive only an hour away.
Philip and Elaine are the most wonderful and helpful hosts that you can imagine.
The Alms House is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy a holiday.
