Dream La Romana was great for accommodating my group of 82 which included young children, teens, and adults. There were many food and entertainment options and plenty of space. Most of the food was excellent. The beach was not overly crowded and their was plenty of pool space to spread out and enjoy the great selection of drinks. The most impressive part of the resort was the staff. Each person was kind and genuine, from the bartenders to the waiters to the concierge. The entertainment team especially stood out, specifically Picasso, Luigi, Chocolate, and the best, Desiree! They helped add many laughs and memories to the trip. Dream La Romana is perfect for people of all ages and I couldn't be more happy with the staff.

We just returned home after a 6day/5 night stay at Dreams La Romana -- there are definitely things travelers should know before booking a trip to this property.

Pools/Beach: The pools and beach are great! The open water swimming was wonderful -- warm, clear, absolutely lovely. Pools are clean and well kept. Tons of seating everywhere but definitely find your “spot” early in the day for premium suntanning. Water sports were fun, we took advantage of the kayaks and paddleboards, but reserve early as spots fill quickly. The preferred club adults-only pool was great. Highly recommend if you are staying PC.

Accommodations: The property is well laid out but decor is highly dated. We had a preferred club partial ocean view room, one of the upper floors at a building on the property’s west side. The ocean view was very small (mostly covered by palm trees), if you are considering a true ocean view then you are better off selecting an oceanfront suite. Still, those overlook the beach crowds. In hindsight we may have preferred a garden view or swim-out since our ocean view wasn’t as advertised.

Our room was rather run down. Furniture is overly worn and broken, linens were tattered, floor tiles near the patio door were loose and the patio door itself didn’t slide smoothly. A woodpecker was nesting above our door and provided a morning wakeup call. The bathroom was well appointed but again, poor maintenance with the glass shower wall (overly caulked) and water still poured out onto the floor.

The walls are also awkwardly/uncomfortably thin. You can hear everything. EVERYTHING. Crying babies, conversations, you can hear it all. Beware.

The common areas were nice. Ample, comfortable seating everywhere.

The gym is quite small and fills quickly. No room to lay a mat among weight machines and only three treadmills which snapped up right away upon opening. We didn’t take advantage of spa services but heard from a few others while we were there that they had marginal experiences. A couple of spa personnel were walking around giving shoulder massages at the PC pool one afternoon. A nice touch.

Food/Bar: One of the travelers in our party has multiple food allergies and it was difficult to find appropriate meal selections. The menus poorly listed gluten free and vegetarian offerings. Better care needs to be taken to alert diners of allergens and the kitchen staff wasn’t adequately prepared for it. Otherwise, expect typical resort food. Unimpressive.

Bars were good, quick service, plenty of non-alcoholic options for <18. The swim up bars were usually pretty busy. Preferred club bars were great, quick service, premium alcohol selections and helpful staff. Definitely faster service if you go and get your own drinks rather than wait for the attendants to come around to you.

Expect a minimum of an hour wait for room service. (Plan ahead accordingly.) It did boast a pretty comprehensive menu, though, and available 24 hours with options for just about every need from late night snacks to dinner and anything between.

Service: Overall, 2/5. Once you had the attention of staff, they were highly accommodating and friendly. But getting someone to acknowledge you or a need was difficult and sometimes unwelcoming. (PC towel service is awful at best. They grumbled if you asked for one extra and don’t even think about asking them to bring you some to the beach. Overly protective. It’s a towel, yo.) Likewise, several times we had to flag someone down at dinners. They’d bring your drinks or food and then forget about you.

Overall thoughts/impressions: We have stayed at sister resorts to Dreams (Secrets, etc) so the bar was set pretty high. While it was an enjoyable trip, we probably wouldn’t return to this location.

Room Tip: Ocean front suite offers the best views, swim outs are the most private

We have previously stayed in another Dreams hotel in Dominican Rep and loved it so much we decided to try another hotel of this brand. Unfortunately, this hotel did not meet our expectations as is far from the standards offered in Punta Cana. What really saves the hotel is the staff they employ as every single person is superb.

The arrival makes quite an impression as you can see the sea right through the lobby area – this makes for a stunning view. We have stayed in the regular section in building 2. Check in was quick and we loved the fact that the reception acknowledged out earlier room request – this made the check in more personal as if we were actually known and expected. The hotel itself is nice with well-kept grounds and clean pools. On the other hand, it’s not a new hotel and it starts to show. Beach is not large but adequate, plenty of space around pools with good amount of sun loungers. Location is also very convenient – around 10min walk along the shoreline to the nearby village.

Rooms are good size – we particularly liked the slanted ceiling in our top floor room. Bathroom is large but dated. Unfortunately, the cleaning standards could improve. It wasn’t filthy but... Room was kept tidy but there were certain areas that haven’t been touched throughout our stay (and by the looks of it long before that) – there were some old petals on the floor which remained there for the whole 2 weeks, cobwebs in corners difficult to reach, balcony table wasn’t wiped even once, stains on the bed sheets (they were clearly washed but the stains did not come out) and some issues in the bathroom. Also, the roof outside our room leaked during rainy weather and the water was trickling under the doors into our room.

There is good choice of restaurants and places to eat. Buffet breakfast had good selection. For dinner you have selection of a la cart or buffet. We didn’t rate the evening buffet but the a la cartes were great. Our favourite was the Dominican, seafood and seaside grill. Lunch was fantastic in the buffet but not so much in the seaside grill (food was average: either cold or not exactly what the menu said). Beach themed lunches were nice but the queues were massive. Hot dogs and pizza were nice. Coffee shop was also very good – if you want a decent cup of tea this is where you should go.

Entertainment team were fantastic.

Bars were plentiful during the day but only 2 were serving in the evening. There is one bar in the pool. Every pool has a waitress service if you don’t fancy getting up. Our favourite bar was at the main pool during the day (thank you Alexander, Udyn and Glory) and the lobby bar in the evenings (thank you Jorge and Alexis). All the bartenders are fantastic and can do so much more than what’s on the menu – just ask for a surprise. The only issue we had was lack of sitting at the bars. There were plenty of tables to sit down at but we do like sitting at the bar itself as it makes it much easier to strike a conversation with other quests.

Spa is good and on occasion you can get a well-priced packages. Sandra and Alberta were great for deep tissue massage. Unfortunately, appointments are not very punctual – we waited twice: 30min and 45min. which had an impact on other activities we had organised. I understand this is a business but if a customer is running late please do not punish the next person – reschedule the latecomers.

What we missed the most is the Caribbean vibe – apart from the shows/entertainment events hotel doesn’t allow Dominican music to be played but this is apparently what majority of the guests prefer. Please note this hotel has a lot of returning trade so they must be doing something right. However, we were planning to book Dreams for our holidays in Costa Rica and now will will have to rethink.

To conclude, our stay might have been disappointing if not the staff – they cannot do enough for you! Thank you Tempora, Luis (excursions), Pokemon and many others whose names would take another page of this review.

Loved the resort and can not wait to come back. I really enjoyed all the working and how nice they were. Food was good and some places was great. Pools and beaches was the best. My wife loved the spa. The gym could use some updating but the service there was great too.
