We set off from Mooloolaba on the cruiser "Stirs the Soul" for an exciting day trip to Moreton Island ( Tangalooma Wrecks). After about 1hr quick trip, spotting a couple of dolphins along the way, we arrived at the wrecks area, anchored and in the water. I was amazed at the wrecks, their position/location to the beach and the amount of visitors swimming around. Having only snorkelled once before I was given a quick refresh by the captain. After a few laughs at my attempt to put my own equipment on, I was off enjoying what was on offer. I had a buddy with me (Annie) and we made sure we were close to each throughout the experience. The wrecks were amazing. I cannot believe the amount of fish varieties there were. We saw a stingray and loads of colourful fish. We checked out the wrecks and massive cogs that lie beneath the water line. If you looked in the holes of the ship you could see a nursery of baby fish, all colourful and amazing. We enjoyed a delicious lunch of chilled prawns & bugs with various dipping sauces for lunch. After lunch settled we were off for another swim & snorkel. Overall I absolutely loved this day trip. I would recommend doing this for any beginner. Also you can take a dingy or tender to the beach and explore the island. There are cafes etc for you to fuel up. We were having so much fun that we didn't feel the need to do this. We also had plenty of food & drinks onboard. Thankyou to Stirs the Soul for making it a wonderful day.

Wrecks teeming with fish and crabs and we saw a dolphin too! Crystal clear waters, stay as long as you want, investigating all the nooks and crannies. No point booking a tour unless you need assistance to get out to the wrecks (current easier to manage at high at high tide - my 9 year old niece was ok with it - she is a strong swimmer). Glorious experience, don't miss it.

Great snorkelling in Moreton Bay. If swimming out from the beach you will need to be a good swimmer as the current is fast. You can buy a snorkelling trip from Tanga Tours and the boat takes you from the resort to the wrecks

I joined a Tangalooma wrecks snorkelling trip on Friday 27 November 2015 which I booked on the Pacific Dawn cruise ship. It consisted of a 10-15 minute boat trip to the wrecks, approximately 15 minutes in the water and the boat trip back. There were about five groups each with a dive leader. Due to rough weather, a strong current and poor visibility, groups mingled and there was much bumping against other snorkelers. On return, I had to queue and was told to wash my flippers, goggles and wetsuit and then hang the wetsuit up while staff watched on. The weather aside, I was unimpressed with the whole experience and would not recommend this tour be booked in advance.
