Poor cleanliness and quality of accomodation. mirror wardrobe door fell off on to guest...Lucky no injury and no apology from staff until last day. Always read the poor review dont rely on positive reviews. the best poor review is the best you can expect.

Room tip: Make sure to get a sea view and dont settle for less.

Too much discussion in the reviews about 5 star or 4 star or whatever stars. It is Spanish star system anyway. Measure the hotel by what it gives you. We ate at the Gran Hotel El Duque restaurant one lunchtime and had 2 salads and a glass of wine each for €45 - the service was very average and the food certainly not worth the price we paid. It puts the complaints about food and drinks here into context. Comments about drinks prices - yes expensive but we find that true in most hotels and prices here are not extortionate compared to most. We booked a Junior Suite in the Level. Our check in was excellent. Seated comfortably while enjoying a glass of Cava and the reception staff were friendly and efficient. We were taken (with our bags) by the porter to our room on the 8th floor. Large suite with a big balcony and chairs, table and sunbeds and a tremendous view. More than adequate for our holiday though not as plush as hotels in Egypt or Middle East and similar places where we have stayed but this is Tenerife and comfort levels were fine. There was a complementary full bottle of cava waiting for us and a bottle of water which was replenished every day. The large bathroom had 2 washbasins and a walk in shower as well as a bath but a surprisingly pokey and inadequate toilet area -big design error. Cleaning was very good, quality bed linen and towels changed every day. Yes our floor did get sandy and sometimes with dark coloured sand dust (there is lava dust all over the island) but we didn't take our shoes off imediately when returning to the room after a day out so I suggest that we and others only have ourselves to blame really.
It was swept and cleaned every day so the cleaner shouldn't be blamed. The hotel provided slippers to wear as well as a bath robe - mine was far too small but on request was replaced immediately. In fact we had 2 or 3 things which needed changing or remedial action and when reported were corrected very quickly. In fact our experience was that all staff were very keen to help and make our holiday a good one. Most with a friendly smile though one or two not so smiley (though did their job perfectly well) but that could also be said of some guests. The atmosphere generally in the hotel was relaxed and welcoming. Our reception; staff; room and facilities is a big tick for the Level. Breakfast at the Level is very good though I didn't particularly like it's outside area location ( but my wife did) and thought the main restaurant's outside dining area was more special and had better views. I also thought the Level Pool area was not very good; was cramped ( the fencing was awful) and had no view ( the pool itself was excellent and the water a nice temperature). It would have been far better to have a unique Level section in the main pool area where the snack bar is located and there are open views. As we reported to the staff the arrangements for seating guests from the Level at Dinner is abysmal and falls well short of being made to feel special. The hotel is also supposed to have a dress code but seems to make no effort in exerting any control over that. Many guests had made an effort - not fair on them that the hotel do not appear to. The Level's cocktail hour with free drinks and tapas was enjoyable but commencing at 5:30 usually too early for us when we went out for the day - they should start at 6:00. Our opinion of the Level overall was mixed and while falling short on several things we would most likely select it again based on the reception, our room and the staff. Food at breakfast was very good and we always found something we liked from the big offering on the buffet and show cooking at Dinner. Always a good selection of a variety of fish or meats as well as paella, pizza, rice dishes etc'. The salad bar was a bit short on quality and choice compared to other places we have stayed but you certainly don't go hungry. Deserts and cheeses on offer were excellent. We always ate outside as we prefer that and the atmosphere inside too noisy and hectic. Some reviews found the decor and furniture not to their liking but it's the designers idea of modern style no doubt and there are place mats on the tables. Waiting staff did appear always under pressure but did their best to provide good service. We never noticed any senior management on a walk about or talking to guests - they should try that sometime because you will learn a lot about your hotel - the very good as well as things to improve. We enjoyed our holiday.

Room tip: Go for a Suite in the Level - high floor with sea view

We travelled here with our two daughters (24 and 26) for a short family break for 4 nights. The hotel is situated high up on a hill overlooking Adeje. There are lifts, but we used the stairs to get exercise, but I imagine it would be a little tricky with push chairs having to use the lifts all the time. The gardens surrounding the hotel complex are very attractive. The main pool is huge with very attractive bridges over it. I think it is more geared up to adult swimmers as its very deep all over. I think there might have been one shallow area. The entertainment staff were really good and encouraging to join in activities such as circuit training, paddle board yoga or spinning classes. There is one main restaurant up near the hotel reception and a pool bar/restaurant for lunch time snacks. The food choices in the main restaurant for breakfast, lunch and dinner were excellent. There was evening entertainment each night we were there. They were all good quality musicians and singers. You can eat out on the Terrace Restaurant in the evenings which is nice. On our first night we were given rooms overlooking the loading bay - this was not good. We were woken in the night from 1.00 am onwards for the rest of the night with noises of garbage trucks, deliveries and men shouting. We complained and got moved for the next night and the remainder of our stay. Our next room was lovely overlooking a pool near the main restaurant. We had an enjoyable 4 nights on an all inclusive basis.

Room tip: Avoid any rooms near the loading bay
