The hotel offers so much additional activities, other than than the 5km jogging trail, hikes and walks. A spa on-site which was a nice touch. Compliments to the chef and his/her team. Meals at breakfast and dinner was buffet style. We ate very well. We opted for the sunset walk. However perhaps they should warm guests that it might be more strenuous than what they anticipate it to be. The guide Daniel wasn't very talkative and when we got to the clubhouse, nobody was there to serve us the tea/coffee.
The scenery is beautiful and overall it was a good experience. The 44km to the reserve and hotel, from the R74, takes you through local communities. Be on the lookout for livestock, goats, dogs and kids walking in the road.

Thank you for your review Chrmnvntndr

We are fortunate, as you point out, to have so many activities on the Cathedral Peak Hotel property. We hope our guests don't have to get back into their cars once they arrive. Holidays should involve as little driving as possible, especially when you're surrounded by some of the Drakensberg's most beautiful mountains inviting you out to walk and explore.

I've chatted to Daniel about letting guests know the walk might be a little more strenuous than anticipated. I do apologise for no one being at the Clubhouse when you arrived. We have addressed that.

Thank you for staying with us. We look forward to your next visit

This was one of my best week in my life. It was a pension special week arrangement by Cathedral Peak hotel. With the lovely rooms and food for every meal and staff to support you the whole way every thing when smooth. The guided hiking trials every day especially to the Doreen falls, Mushroom rock, Baboon Rock and Fern Forrest made the experiance more beautiful.

I imagine if you stayed another week, you might have completed every trail at Cathedral Peak Hotel. I'm so glad to hear that your experience made it one of the best weeks on your life. The Drakensberg is both magical and magnificent.

Thank you for staying with us. We look foward to your next stay with us

The room was spacious, clean and well provided with amenities--fridge, coffee/tea maker, bathroom toiletries and had a lovely view. All of the public spaces in the hotel are well maintained and the staff is quite helpful--but not overly so. My main disappointment is with the food. While some people like to have a buffet-style, all inclusive meal plan, some of us would prefer to have the option of ala carte meals. While the wine list by the bottle was adeaute, there was only one choice of wine by the glass (red, white and rosé) and frankly, it was horrible! It would be easy to provide a better selection of wines by the glass. Of course, the setting is magnificent and makes up for some of the deficiencies, but there are other resorts in this area that do a better job of providing a more 'au courant' experience.

We're always grateful for constructive feedback. As an update, we now have 7 different options of wine by the glass. Thank you.

We are fortunate to be surrounded by mountains on all sides. As you point out, it does make for a magnificent setting.

Thank you for staying with us, and we look forward to your next visit

Everything was excellent- the room overlooking the beautiful garden, the outstanding quality and variety of food, the friendly and helpful staff, the breathtaking views and a special treat- watching the first Cathedral Peak Trail run to the top of the Peak and back. Well worth the slightly long trip (all tarred roads) for everyone. And the 18hole golf course in close proximity.

Room Tip: All good outlook and comfort

It was a fantastic morning, watching the start of the Cathedral Peak Challenge. There are another 4 of these events during the year, and we're equally excited for every one of them. An incredibly show of strength and courage.

I'm so glad you enjoyed your break with us. I have passed your feedback on to the management team, to share with their teams.

Thank you for staying with us. We look forward to your next visit

We have come to Cathedral Peak Hotel for the past 7 or more years to celebrate our wedding anniversary and to get away from everything and just relax. We have always received superb service and never had anything to complain about. Last year we were disappointed to not receive the room that we had specifically booked a year in advance but we were re assured that we would get it this year. Unfortunately there was another mix up and we didn't get our requested room. But, we had a bottle of champagne and a bowl of fruit waiting in our room to congratulate us on our 35th wedding anniversary.
Unfortunately there was a problem with the wifi and TV and then to crown it all they had a Business Conference booked and these guests made a noise into the early hours of Sunday morning.
My husband went to complain and got hold of the Manager on duty, Rhine. He was very apologetic and asked us to give him some time to sort out our issues. When we got back from an afternoon out, we had champagne and cheese and fruit waiting for us and Rhine had sorted the wifi and TV issues out, he found us at dinner to give us a run down on the mix up with our room. Rhine also informed us that he had credited us for one nights stay!!
As usual the food was wonderful, the staff were friendly and although our room was not our first choice, it was great. Thank you to Rhine and his staff for fixing their mistakes and for making our stay so special.

Thank you for your review Lisette

I'm really sorry. We certainly don't want any of our guests to feel the way you must have. Rhine and I have met to discuss your experience. Thank you for your graciousness.

I am glad that in spite of your experience that you enjoyed your stay, and we do look forward to welcoming you back next year, with none of what happened this year.
