My wife and I just returned from Rose Cottage.
The cottage itself has a lovely feel to it, the owners have clearly hit the nail on the head when it comes to décor and facilities. It has been done to a high standard and has everything you need from crockery to utensils, a lovely sun room with an indoor growing plant that my wife now wants to replicate in our own house, a cosy living and dining area with great log burner a nicely appointed bathroom, two good double bedrooms, downstairs loo and a kitchen with a brilliant range cooker. Outside there is parking for I would say two cars depending on size, one in the gravel drive and perhaps one just outside the gate.
Outside there is also a nice garden which even on our stay in November was warm and sheltered enough for us to have coffee and breakfast outside.
What I really love about it though is that it is so easily accessible from the A66 and the many attractions of the Lake District are easily accessible from it. Pooley bridge is just a nice walk away and in fact one of the walks in the file we found is what we did when we arrived. From the house to Pooley Bridge on Ullswater where we had lunch, and then via Dalemain House back to the cottage. What a really nice walk.
The food offerings around and about are superb too.
Thye village itself has a few things of interest in itself, including a castle and church. The local public house is going through some renovations so I cannot comment on that just yet, but WHEN we return we hope to let tripadvisor readers know a bit more about that.
Overall, we have not stayed in a better holiday cottage. Definitely recommended.
This cottage has more character than any other we have stayed in. And it also manages to integrate into this character all the modern facilities and items necessary for a comfortable self-catering stay. The moment we walked in we felt like; ‘Whow! We could live here!’ From wood burning fire in the cosy lounge to the modern dishwasher in the excellently fitted kitchen we were impressed with the standard and layout.
One minor flaw is no cloths hanging space in the main bedroom.
