“A Gem of comfort and luxury nestled perfectly amongst natural wonders of the kenyan coast”

Ruby Hall really does give you a blend of all the best of coastal Kenya. Starting with the natural wonders of Mida Creek and all of its incredible birdlife right on your doorstep, Ruby Hall is a peaceful hideaway away amongst the mangroves. Debasso next door is an idyllic little village of happy people, providing a friendly backdrop to the scene. A short ride through the village and you get to Watamu, providing you with perfect beaches, light shopping and a wealth of places to eat and drink in the evening sun. The area feels safe, friendly and comfortable and you will be well looked after by the staff in this remarkable place. Tom has designed it well blending local materials, techniques and features with modern stylish comfort. Absolutely Loved it.

“Love this place - can't wait to go back”

If you come here, you'll be very happy. The house is beautifully designed and in it's secluded spot you can relax and recharge in a unique space. Seconds form the lagoon and minutes from the beach you can enjoy the unspoiled coast line and local hospitality or you can stay at home and be pampered by Joseph (the house keeper) who will treat you like his long lost friend until you become one; his fish curry and chapatis are worth the trip alone. Once you're relaxed and ready for action, there's no shortage of activities nearby. Kite surfing, and other less heroic water sports are easily achieved as are long walks, boat trips and beach time on the most beautiful beaches you're likely to find anywhere. Nearby there are a selection of great restaurants (not that you'll want to miss Joseph's culinary mastery very often). Definitely head through the mangroves on a stilted walkway to find the Crab Shack for a unbeatably fresh and romantic evening. Go to this house in Watamu, feel safe, feel relaxed and feel excited that you did.

My wife and I needed a break and worked hard to identify a place that was both comfortable and well off the beaten path. You never know what you are going to get when you touch down in Africa, and we were pleasantly surprised to see the quality and cleanliness of this establishment. The lagoon views are magical at sunrise; our only regret is that we didn't stay longer. We've already made plans to return in 2016!

“Beautiful tranquil lagoon retreat”

This is a very special place - off the beaten track, open to the gentle breeze and really magical. I found it an incredibly relaxing and happy house, where you can pad around barefoot as the avuncular Joseph whips up mouthwatering feasts, swing in a hammock, paddle about in a tidal lagoon fringed by mangroves, and gaze at the spectacular sunsets from the roof.
For me, the especial charm of it is its tranquility and striking layout, which allows as much of the beautiful surroundings and light in as possible, while providing comfortable bedrooms and living quarters.
It's still easy to get out too, just hop on a bike or in a tuk-tuk to Watamu or Malindi for coast or cocktails, whatever you're looking for.
Four of us stayed there for 10 days (we're all in our thirties) and we had a wonderful time. So my advice would be, if you're undecided - go go go! You won't regret it.

“Magical retreat - simplicity and luxury in one”

This is a very beautiful house. It is designed by a friend of mine so I'm a bit biased but I had no idea until I got there just how wonderful it would be. The space is incredible - a fantastic flow from inside to outside, perfect for the warm weather you get all year round. The bedrooms are simple yet have everything you need. I really enjoyed showering with a view of the sky, and on the mornings I got up early enough, doing yoga on the roof as the sun rose.

Joseph, the cook and housekeeper, is an absolute gem: his cooking is delicious and he makes it his mission to look after the guests. The setting of the house is fantastic - on the edge of a small village, 100m walk from a tidal lagoon in which you can swim when the water's high.

Travelling around on the back of local motorbike taxis was one of the highlights of the stay. Less than half an hour away you have beautiful long white sandy beaches, as well as higher-end resorts where you can treat yourself to a cocktail or meal, but then return to your secluded hideaway - the perfect combination of luxury and simplicity.
