Overall I enjoyed my stay at the Gouvia Hotel. However one or two factors surprised me. In my opinion more effort and time is devoted to the very popular restaurant at the front of the hotel than to guest’s needs in the hotel. For example not once did I see any residents sitting at the bar because it was always stacked with crockery and cutlery from the restaurant. One end of the bar was like an office where a cashier busily dealt with paperwork brought by waiters constantly busying to and fro. On occasions it was a struggle to squeeze past tables to gain access to the hotel reception area.
The three-storey accommodation blocks on both sides of the pool do not have lifts. I specifically requested a ground floor room via my travel agent but it wasn’t listed when checking in. Luckily the lady at the desk managed to find a ground floor room by the pool.
The pool was spotlessly clean but the poolside showers left a lot to be desired; one didn’t work at all, the other only dribbled from an old and rusting shower head. A former poolside bar stood dilapidated, a long time closed by the look of it. Given the inside bar was not appealing, it was a shame to find the poolside facilities closed down.More
