Description: Roly and Helen Harries took over this traditional village pub in Puddletown, near Dorchester in May 2013. Keeping the very best of the old, they set about combining its warm, friendly country ambience with a cool, airy modern interior - part of a style that is reflected in their approach to the food and hospitality. Something for which this bar and restaurant is rapidly gaining a first-class reputation. The food is home cooked, and where possible the ingredients are seasonal and sourced locally from friends or trusted specialist suppliers. The wines have been chosen to complement the menu, and there is always a range of excellent guest ales on tap.Together with Head Chef Danny Durose and his team, they've created a menu that reflects their personal tastes, with a truly international approach - a style that owes as much to the hot islands of the Mediterranean as it does to the classic and everyday dishes of Britain and mainland Europe. Roly and Helen with Children Thomas and Benjamin are passionate about producing the very best food at accessible prices, as well as extending a warm and friendly welcome to locals and visitors alike.

Blue skies and a warm welcome greeted us to this lovely traditional English Pub/restaurant on a classic summers day. Our first decision was not what to pick from the menu, but should we sit outside in the lovely sunny garden or inside the beautiful cool building. We chose inside and were quickly shown to a well presented table made up for eight, complete with linen napkins. Our order for drinks was taken while we studied the extensive lunchtime menu. What a selection to choose from. I chose mussels to start and a large crab and avocado salad. Both of these dishes were wonderfully prepared and presented. Mussels served complete with a finger bowl. Indeed the best mussels I have eaten for sometime. Our table was lively with chat and an obvious contentment brought about by a high quality lunchtime dining experience. I must commend the staff on their excellent service. The talk when leaving was when to return.

Great pub! Lovely food, great atmosphere and very friendly. Excellent Christmas evenings too. We came and sang Christmas carols in December and also attended the Christmas quiz. We love the Vinny!

Well what a lovely find as our two dogs were allowed as well. Super village pub with friendly staff. Our hostess was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble, even a few titbits for the dogs.

Good pub food with local shot pigeon on the menu. They have used local produce where they can and should be commended for this. Puddings were lovely with locally made ice cream.

Yes, we will return on our next Dorset visit.
