Just got back from an amazing hen weekend, the house is beautiful with all it's period features, it's like being on the set of Downton Abbey. Melvyn the owner is a wonderful and very accommodating man, nothing is too much trouble and he just wants you to have an amazing time. We will definitely be going back again next year. 5* in every way

“Faboulous Hen Do Weekend !!!”
Reviewed 2 May 2016 for a stay in April 2016

Just back from a fantastic hen do weekend..... The house is amazing !!!

Booked via Ann at Derbyshire holidays , she was very prompt at answering questions and making the booking.

I phoned Mel ( the owener) week before we went asking if hairdriers were in the rooms it wasn't a problem we just wanted to know if we needed to bring, upon phoning he said he was thinking of putting in and promised he would before our arrival... and in deed he did - nothing seemed to much trouble.

Mel greeted us on arrival and gave us a guided tour round the lovely house and grounds....

he popped in over the weekend to make sure every thing was ok.

Deffianly recommend this house its lovely, my only downside would be even though there is two lounges if you go as a large group ( was 16 in ours) that all sitting in one lounge at the same time was cosy and not every one could get on settees etc... but plently of other chairs to bring in...... and there is 2 lounges but didn't want to sit seperate

Would love to go back again..... x

“Amazing hen do venue with the 'wow' factor!”
Reviewed 30 April 2016 for a stay in April 2016

A group of 15 of us stayed here for a hen do in April. We booked through Ann at Derbyshire Holidays, and she was really prompt at returning my emails and calls with a few queries that I had before booking. We had to pay a one third non-refundable deposit on booking, and the remainder 8 weeks before the stay. The payment was processed promptly and booking confirmation sent by email. We also paid a £250 security deposit, which was returned within a day or two of the end of the stay.

Once booked, we were able to call the owner, Mel, direct, which we did with a few questions about the facilities. Mel was really friendly and very helpful.

We arrived at check in time on Friday at 3pm to find the owner, cleaners and handyman just finishing up. They were terribly apologetic that they hadn't finished (which was really no problem!), and made us cups of tea and took in our Sainsbury's delivery while Mel gave us the tour! They were all so friendly and instantly put us at ease! They had just finished installing two brand new hot tubs, one outside under a pop-up gazebo, and one inside in the pool area - what a treat to be first in!! Mel's only rules were no glass in the pool, and no noise outside after 10pm for the sake of the neighbours - brilliant to have such a relaxed attitude, especially in such a beautiful home, it really did make such a difference to the enjoyment of the weekend!! He showed us where we could get fresh towels and linen from if we needed it, and said we could call on him for anything we needed over the weekend.

There was plenty of parking - I think we had 8 cars and there was still lots of room left.

The house is really well equipped, and there was a mini bottle of wine, water, towels, a robe and slippers for every guest. Mel explained that there were two boilers and the water was very hot - designed to cope (which it did fine!) with up to 18 girls on a hen do wanting to bath and shower within half an hour to get ready!

There is so much space, even for a large group, and we ended up congregating in the kitchen which has a huge table and plenty of storage space. There is an aga with 5 ovens and two hobs, plus a separate oven - plenty of space for us to cook for 15. Teatowels, cutlery, crockery, utensils etc were all provided, and we took our own washing up liquid, sponges, dishwasher tablets, tin foil and kitchen roll, as well as tea, coffee and sugar. If other guests have had those previously then the owner / cleaner will leave them there, but of course you can't rely on this so I'd advise taking your own. There was also plenty of ice left for us in the freezer! One thing worth highlighting was the number of steps around the property - there are four quite steep steps down into the front entrance way, and numerous single steps around the ground floor - to be expected in a historic property. Access up to the first floor is good, but up to the second floor bedrooms the steps are steep in parts and a little uneven, so if there are people in your group who might have trouble with this then it's worth being aware of when allocating rooms. This is highlighted on the website, and the room descriptions were spot on - very helpful when planning rooms in advance.

Mel popped in throughout the weekend to check the chlorine levels in the pool and hot tubs, and it was lovely that he said hello but was not at all in the way. He also came in of an evening to light the fire for us in the living room. We called on him a couple of times to take group photos, and (when invited!) even joined us for a shot served by our cheeky butler in the buff!!

For the Friday night we stayed in and cooked for ourselves, most of us got in the hot tubs (room for probably six in each, maybe 8 at a push!), and we'd also brought along a playstation for a bit of karaoke which we set up on the tele in the second living room which is adjacent to the pool. The next night we got a party bus into Sheffield (about 45 mins away). The bus driver, like most of us, missed the entrance to the place (even though it is sign posted!), but once he'd found it had no problem getting up the steep drive to the house. On Sunday, we walked down into Tupton (about 15 mins walk) for lunch at the New Inn, where they do three courses for £11. We called to let them know we were coming but there was plenty of room for us.

On Monday Mel came in to see us off, and was relaxed about the check out time of 10am given that the cleaners were able to get in and make a start. He had brought parting gifts of flowers for both the bride to be and the organiser which was a really lovely touch.

Overall, we had the most amazing time at Hagg Hill Hall - we had everything we needed and more, and the house most definitely had the WOW factor for an incredibly relaxing weekend away - I really can't recommend it highly enough.
