Just off the A1 at the Bettolle exit is this supermarket of locally-produced meats, cheeses, oils and wines. Anything you might want to bring home, you can get it here. Go to the butcher counter and order some of the cured meats, some cheese, get some bread... after you check out, to the right there is a little dining area where you can sit and make panini to eat for lunch with the meats and cheese and bread you just bought there. Buy your own wine and drink it here, or for either free or a small fee (my memory is fuzzy about that...) you can drink the boxed wine that is there (it's good!) to go with your lunch. If you're not a drinker that's fine, they also have soft drinks and water you can buy. I can't say for sure how good their English is here, since I speak Italian fairly well. I would guess that they see enough tourists that they know enough English for you to make an order or do your transaction.

If ordering prosciutto ask them to slice off the fat ("taglia il grasso" or "magro per piacere" or "non lo voglio il grasso"), Italians expect this to be done but if you're a tourist they might try to get away with not doing this. Other great cuts of cured meats to try are capacollo, finocchiona (made with fennel, I LOVE this), and of course they will have Tuscan salame. Be sure to try the pecorino cheese, the aged ("stagionato") is going to be the best (according to me), its taste is a little sharper than the younger pecorino.

The bread is all fresh and made daily. The olive oil is out of this world, of course, and they do provide oil and vinegar as condiments in the little picnic area as well as cups and utensils and napkins.

We did lunch with friends here and they raved about it, they said it was one of the best meals they had on their trip.

At the other end of this strip mall is a bar if you want to finish your meal with an espresso. Buon appetito!

this is a consorzio, a small local grocery/bottega serving local folks. We were a party of ten enroute to our villa for a week and we stopped in here for our initial purchases. Salami, wine, cheeses, olives, bread, veggies, chocolates and more - yes, there is a small section serving meals, and locals eating there, but we were there for the LOCAL groceries. If you're in the area, and need a place for stocking your "residence" this is the place to go. Not a huge grocery store, but a place where locals make dishes offered in the deli case and the staff will help you with your wine choices...and cheese to complement it. Plentiful parking out front and loads to load up on.

Very nice, extensive selection of local foods, jams, pasta, wines, in addition to fresh vegetables, cheeses, and meats (fresh and cured). Helpful staff, easy parking (no small thing). Especially nice selection of confuters and honeys.
