This is a beautiful self-contained building for a couple to stay. We stayed for a week and had a great time exploring the area then coming back in the evening. In addition to the lounge you've got a nice kitchen, a good sized bathroom and a lovely bedroom. There is also a little patio where sat and had dinner some evenings. It was perfect for us.
The WiFi worked very well.
Parking is right outside the front door on the "drive".
The shower worked well.
No problems with plumbing or other services.
The only thing I would add is that if you're avid TV watchers then this may not be for you as the TV (with built-in DVD player) is relatively small by today's standards. It didn't bother us as we only watched it one evening - though we did use the radio feature most mornings. We went out for walks around the local fields instead - and also to the Lackford Lakes Reserve which is only about a mile up the road where you can sit in the evening and watch a wide range of different birds - and from hides if you wish. Useful for taking photos.
We stayed at The Forge for the month of June. Well equipped and tastefully decorated, it was the perfect home away from home. We used The Forge as our home base for both overnight and day trips. It was wonderful to return after tourist crowds and motorway madness to the quiet of The Forge, to recharge for the next adventure. We visited local attractions such as the Anglo-Saxon Village in West Stow, Brandon Country Park near Brandon, Audley End's "A Joust for Elizabeth", Kentwell Hall's "Tudor Days", Packenham Mill's "Vintage Power Day", and Ickworth House, all near Bury St. Edmunds, itself well worth a visit. Highly recommended.
We stayed at the Forge for a few days at the end of May, it is a lovely comfortable place and was the ideal location for what we needed. Thank you.
Just returned from three nights at The Forge, only wish we could have stayed longer! We found the property easily from the instructions given, and felt totally comfortable there. I cannot find any fault at all with The Forge and loved everything about our stay. We didn't use the kitchen to cook for ourselves, we ate out or got takeaway, but the kitchen was has adequate cooking facilities had we wanted to cook. Bury St Edmunds is only a ten minute car journey away so really easy to travel into for restaurants. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting a break in the countryside somewhere cosy and with character and a little bit different. Will definitely stay there again.
Although we experienced some problems with the boiler losing pressure (no hot water) and the extractor fan not switching of, we enjoyed our stay. It is a perfect place for a couple, warm and cosy and with a full equip kitchen, and the location is perfect to explore the beautiful colours of Autumn in Suffolk. We would love to come back some day.
