A beautiful setting for anyone who wants a relaxing break with the option of visits to some Italian architectural gems such as Lucca. The villa is 15 minutes of winding road from the nearest town, Barga, but this is a small price for having peace and quiet and spectacular views. The pool, of which we had exclusive use, felt like swimming on top of the world. The owners are very helpful.

We stayed at Mengarinella in Sept 2014 and can honestly say it is the most wonderful place to stay. The property, accessed by a winding private driveway through electric gates, is shared with another apartment (Mengarino) on a massive plot of land cultivated by the owners with olive and walnut trees and lots of different fruit trees. The gardens around the property are lovely with the main part of the lawned areas above the property accessed by a steep driveway. This leads to a large lawned area with the fabulous infinity style pool. A shaded pergola area is also adjacent with sunbeds and chairs / table to eat up by the pool if you so desire. And boy you will desire!! An evening out by the pool watching the sun go down with nibbles and wine with the pool lights on is completely amazing!
Both of the properties are immaculate, the smaller recently converted 'barn' is lovely and cozy for 2 with a lovely bedroom (great views). The larger house (Mengarino) offers plenty of room for 4-6 people and again has great views out of the front windows.
Both of the properties are 'rented together' in high season - so ideal for 2 families or 2 sets of friends, although out of high season the house can be rented on its own (the the barn shut off). We were lucky enough to be able to do it the other way round, renting the barn rather than the house, however this is not how the owners usually rent. Because we were the only people on the site there was no problem using bits and bobs from either property, the owners kindly said that anything could be used from either kitchen etc.
Then we come to the owners Marco and Simonetta .... What fantastic people they are! Friendly, welcoming and genuinely enthusiastic people, who have renovated the properties mainly by themselves into the amazing place that it is now. We has the pleasure of one of their pizza evenings which they kindly offer to most guests with homemade pizza cooked in a outside bread oven all made from their homemade flour, oils etc. The evening was one of the highlights with much merriment and laughter, with the best pizza you will ever taste!
Barga is some 10 minutes away by car (which is a necessity) and offers many other places to eat, drink. Lots of English spoken throughout.
All in all a wonderful place to stay, away from crowds in your own little piece of heaven!
You will not be disappointed staying here!!
