You have found the most amazing little bed and breakfast with probably the nicest hosts in all of Europe! The rooms are clean, fresh and fully equipped with anyhting one could need and the view from the house is just stunning. Pietro and Marijke introduced us to authentic Tuscan culture and we got to experience so much during the week, from wineyards and farms to variety of things to do and experience. We got detailed descriptions of beatiful hikes and day-trips and our wonderful hosts even lended us equipment for a day at the beach and all the maps we could possibly need.
This is by far the best bed and breakfast we have stayed at and I recommend a stay here with all my heart (and don't skip the breakfast, it's a true highlight of the day!). Thank you again, Pietro and Marijke <3
I cannot gush enough about this place. I sat for hours just staring at the stunning view from our terrace. I couldn't get enough. Our hosts were such wonderful people. Their hospitality was overflowing. When we arrived late and hadn't eaten all day, the hosts invited us to have dinner with them. They were almost apologetic that it was a "simple" dinner. It was so delicious, I wanted to devour the whole bowl of risotto with asparagus. The tomato salad that Pietro made, I still make often now that I am home. Marejke (spelling may be incorrect) heated our plates in the oven so everything was piping hot (a biggie with me)! Breakfasts were huge and everything, I mean everything, was made from fresh ingredients. They even make their own olive oil from their olive trees. They fresh squeezed oranges for us for our morning juice. The accommodations were so warm and cozy and clean. I can tell you that every day I long to go back to this place. It truly got into my soul.
The hosts are incredible. I cannot say enough about this couple and their beautiful home. The location is fantastic-a short walk from the small town of Barga. The hospitality and the experiences they provided my mother and I are ones that we will never forget. Stunning views and hospitality/accommodations with equal quality.
Staying in a B&B can be pretty much a game of hit and miss, but Serra di Barga is definitely a "hit"! We stayed in the Panoramica, which has no kitchenette but in exchange offers a view of Barga that defies description. Waking up in the morning and seeing the hill with the Duomo and the mountains in the background is an experience we shall not easily forget.
The charming village of Barga is within walking distance, and we much enjoyed exploring its many steep roads, stairs and unexpected piazzas. Other nearby villages can be easily accessed by car, and if you are desperate for "retail therapy" the city of Lucca is some 45 minutes away by car (tip: there's a large free parking lot behind the Q8 station on the SS12).
However, what makes or breaks the B&B experience are the hosts, and here I can not do otherwise but praise Pietro and Marijke who really go out of their way to make you feel at home and provide information and guidance to make the most out of your stay.
We will most definitely be back.
We loved our short stay in the Panorama Room: spacious, comfortable, and very aptly named. The town of Barga, the surrounding valley and the mountains beyond: we could have passed the days just gazing at that stunning panorama, watching it change with the passing of time and changing weather.
Pietro and Marijke are superb hosts--so friendly, knowledgeable, helpful, with a wealth of experience from traveling and living in many countries. They have used their considerable knowledge to create a relaxed, gracious home to welcome guests. Delicious breakfasts and lively conversations (in several languages) made each day of our stay a pleasure.
