Myself, newly husband and 18 month old daughter have just returned from a week stay at Playas de Guardamar. After reading the reviews we were dreading our holiday however we really didnt need to.

The hotel staff wereall lovely, helpul and pleasant. The rooms were cleaned daily with fresh towels.

Food - you get what you pay for, if you want 5* the pay for 5*! We found plenty to eat at each meal time for all three of us.

Not a lot to do other than pool and beach which made it slightly difficult on the cloudy days, however if we had hired a xar this wouldnt have been an issue. Guardamar is a short bus journey away, and takes about 40 mins to walk back. We did this most nights for a change of scenary.

We wouldnt visit again as the hotel just wasnt for us, but this wasnt due to it being an 'awful' place as if we werent with a toddler would have been perfect

Depending on the type of holiday you are looking for, there is very little to do at this hotel. Most of the residents are Spanish, which is absolutely fine as it is in Spain after all, but the staff only seem to have time for them and not you. Dining times are weird, breakfast is 8.30 - 11.30, then lunch is 13.30 - 14.00, and dinner is 20.30 - 21.00. You have a half hour slot to get into the restaurant, otherwise the door is locked and they won't let you in. Food is ok and there is plenty of choice, but it's barley warm most nights. In fact one night in particular as we were leaving the restaurant, there was a hive of activity near the exit door with everyone filling forms in, we thought they were entering a draw to win a free holiday, it turns out they were all filling complaints forms in because the food was stone cold ( we opted for salad this particular night so were unaware). They also claim that there is a pool, spa and Jacuzzi there, and yes there is, but it's closed for the summer season for some ridiculous reason, and is only open in the winter. Rooms are ok and nicely air conditioned, but we found the room maids key at the bottom of one of our suitcases, so have reason to believe that they had been rummaging.
The village of Guardamar is a 10 minute bus ride away, but there's not much to do there by way of shopping, and that's about it locally. Beach is nice and only a short stroll from the hotel, and the pool is always absolutely jam packed with Spanish families playing water volleyball really loudly, so not much chance of a leisurely swim.
Again, this review depends on the kind of holiday that you are looking for, but it's not the kind of holiday that we were looking for, so think carefully before you book.

Room Tip: it's high rise so ask for a lower floor as there's a lot of time spent waiting for lifts.

Estimado Madchef:

The hotel is located on the beach and our room had great views. Great beach you can walk for miles. There is not much night life near the bar, you need to walk or taxi to Guardamar. You can walk along the beach to Guardamar. It's about 20 min walk. Food in hotel wasn't for me, others thought it was ok Mostly spanish guests

Big hotel right on the beach, very nice big rooms with air-conditioning and balcony with sea view, large bathroom with spacious shower. Only problem I have with this place is their system for dining, evening meal starts at 20,30_21,00 where around 650 people queue to rush into the dining room at the same time

Very local hotel, for Spanish people. We weren't made to feel particularly welcome and in fact had a bar tender mock us for trying to speak Spanish.
The buffet wasn't great, mainly burgers and chips in an exceptionally busy restaurant which seats nearly 900 people, the hours of dining are allocated to whichever floor you are on, our dinner time was from 21.45!
Be warned that there are 2 types of all inclusive options, a cheaper one and a branded one, the cheap one was awful and very selective.
We were the only couple there for our week in August, it was completely full of Spanish families, nothing was offered in any other language.
Also, the bathroom looks like someone had vomited on the design plans and installed it! There was mould on the grout and a huge leak from the shower. There was also no option for a double bed, they couldn't be pushed together as they would just part again because of the laminate flooring.
I would give it a higher star if we were more included and felt like we were welcome.

Estimado Matt.
