Meal for 10 people, well looked after and service was excellent. Food piping hot and very tasty.

Got free bolas and fishcakes and a glass of Maderian wine to wash it all down.

Read the reviews, got the message, bought the T-shirt and took our last visitor to the restaurant. At this side of the island there aren't that many restaurants and we'd usually pop into Calheta but this time we didn't want too much of a drive! Wish we'd gone a bit further. It's not that there is anything particularly wrong with this place. Pleasant service, pleasant enough food, pleasant surroundings but that's the point. Its not one that we'd hurry back for to repeat a memorable evening. Prices, for this area, are not far off Funchal levels. Menu, not extensive, steak on a stone was not a chunk of fillet but a number of strips which of course cook quickly and defeat the whole pedra experience. Mixed grill, one pork chop, one small lamb chop a small piece of beef - feh! All just a bit sad. Some people have mentioned the cheesecake - more like a wet creamy whip with thawed frozen fruit, less a cheesecake.

We waited for about 1 hour for the food, in the meanwhile we ate caco bread and they offered very good codfish cakes. Not great choices for desert but the bad part of the meal was the slow service.

We found this restaurant through Trip Adviser and chose to go through the consistently high ratings. We were not disappointed and would concur with the positive comments. The food is of good quality and the portions are generous. The menu caters for a wide range of tastes. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The interior of the restaurant is attractively set. There is plenty of parking. It does not offer wonderful views but do not be put off by the exterior or it's location next to a supermarket.
