We arrived on a Wednesday night in June to this unassuming restaurant near the main fountain in Praia da Rocha. It’s appearance could deceive that the quality inside is not worth it..... nothing could be further from the truth.
We arrived to a warm welcome and immediately led to a table.
We ordered bread to start, a bottle of house wine, a Portuguese steak and a fillet of swordfish done Algarve style.
Bread and butter was promptly served along with the wine, which for €10 was all that was expected and more.
Our mains were simply a delight and delivered so much more than the facade of the building had promised.
The Portuguese steak with its fried potatoes and egg and generous slice of Parma ham was perfectly seasoned in its red wine sauce with fresh herbs throughout.
The fillet of swordfish was delicately doused in an Algarve sauce of tomatoes garlic and onions which worked well with the boiled potatoes.
A real hidden gem just 5 minutes from the main restaurants of Praia da Rocha.
Another good sign as always with restaurants was the patronage of mainly Portuguese people, if the locals eat here tourists can be assured it’s a good bet!

We heard about it at the front desk of our hotel. A smaller restaurant just before the Main Street. The food was excellent! Lots of choices, the owner and staff were very friendly and helpful. We are going back again before we leave Portimao.

Firstly, don’t be put off by the position and outer appearance. The restaurant itself looks quite plain from the outside and is on the dual carriageway just off the roundabout with the fountains (and seagulls). So not on the main strip as such. Traditional Portuguese food. We had mushrooms and chorizo to start which one portion would have fed two. Likewise for the mains, traditional Portuguese pork or beef steak with potatoes (scallop shaped and cooked like chips). I had three pork steaks in mine which was too much. Piri Piri chicken was served with homemade Piri Piri sauce (pictured) which was super hot (and I can eat hot !). Apparently this was the tourist version and an even hotter version is available ! Complimentary cherry liqueur at the end. Four starters, four mains, bottle wine, four soft drinks, two desserts €88. Will be back again in June.

After a week in Praia da Rocha we were fed up looking for real authentic Portuguese place and found this little treasure based on Trip Advisor reviews. We got lucky this time! The restaurant itself was really simple, you wouldn’t notice it walking down the street, not luxurious in any way but was screaming Portugal from the second we stepped in. Me and my boyfriend had Portuguese Steaks and our kids had chicken nuggets and peppered steak. It was simple but so tasty!! The portions were massive. House wine was beautiful! Free shots of cherry liquor kept coming in. For the dessert we had chocolate cake with ice cream, it was delicious but after those tasty meals we just couldn’t finish it... anyway well recommended place if you’re looking for some delicious traditional food in a peaceful friendly atmosphere! Five stars *****

Discovered this restaurant by accident. As we walked by every evening it was packed so we decided to try it. We loved it and ate there most nights after that. Beautiful food, friendly atmosphere, great service and such good value. Would totally recommend it.
