We had a fantastic stay at Le Lupinaie. The wonderful owners of this agriturismo welcomed us as if we were family.
To enjoy your visit to this area you will need a car and the willingness to drive over country roads for fairly long distances. You will be rewarded with breathtaking scenery and a seemingly infinite number of castles and churches, or in our case, local restaurants serving delicious food. (I'm sorry we didn't get the chance to eat a homemade meal prepared by the owners of Le Lupinaie... next time, I hope!)
The rooms are in an old farmhouse lovingly restored by the owners. We stayed in the apartment. It was beautifully furnished and impeccably clean. All of our needs were attended to perfectly by our hosts, always with lots of smiling and laughing. And the dogs are always ready to play with the guests.
I highly recommend Le Lupinaie to anyone who wants to explore the backroads of Maremma. I can't wait to come back again.
If you want a taste of real Tuscany then head out of Florence for an hour and a half to the very comfortable Agriturismo Le Lupinaie in the heart of Maremma where you'll be spoilt with more delicious food than you could ever possibly eat . . . but you'll give it your best shot!!
The traditional farmhouse is situated half a mile from a very small hamlet and is surrounded by vineyards, fields of grazing sheep, horses and a much loved donkey! The rooms are spacious, really clean and have all the comforts of home. The terrace is the perfect place to enjoy a glass or two of something cold whilst looking out at unspoilt Tuscan countryside. The accommodation is ideally situated to explore the many historic hill top towns of Maremma and the beach is just half an hour away.
But for me the best thing about this Agriturismo are the hosts. A delightful couple who made myself and my film crew so welcome into their lovely home. The hostess runs a cookery school here and I can see why - the seemingly never ending supply of delicious food at supper was out of this world and it was enjoyed with gallons of local wine, the finest grappa and all for an extra €25 per person - money well spent!
If you want to enjoy the real Tuscany then head here and don't panic when your sat-nav sends you to the station as I’m sure it will- just turn around, head up the tree lined avenue for a quarter of a mile and it's on the left - three very friendly dogs will greet you at the gates and before long you'll want to take them all home with you!
