We traveled to Italy as a mom-and-daughter pair and spent almost a week at Marco's place in Tuscany. It was a truly memorable homestay experience with many warm interactions with Marco and his extended family. He was a great host, ferrying us back and forth from the local station, providing maps and information of places to visit in Tuscany, even staying up late one night to help me book train tickets back to Milan (thank you, Marco).
We have experienced homestays in various places on our travels before and our stay with Marco features among the top few on the list. As travelers, one of the most valuable experiences is to learn a little bit about the culture and way of life of the people of another country beyond the touristy superficiality, and we got just that from our stay at Marco's. We spent many happy hours talking about their life at the farm, the history and art of many places in Tuscany, a bit of Italian politics, sports and many other things most evenings at the kitchen table. My mom, who is an artist and a writer, found a kindred appreciator of art, languages and history in Marco.
The room itself was, of course, clean, convenient and well-provided for. The breakfast spread was healthy and filling, to equip us well for the travels of each day. From our base at Marco's place, we visited the little town of Montecarlo (though didn't visit the fort), Florence, Lucca, Pescia and Pisa - all on day trips.
Its a great place to stay and we recommend it highly!!!
