Having visited and enjoyed our maiden visit last year, we decided on returning this year for a weekend break.
The service last year was fantastic as was the food in the restaurant. This year it was rather disjointed and mediocre at best. The staff tried to cope with a not terribly busy compliment of guests but struggled a little to deal with simple guest requests.
One member of staff to work the bar and take table orders didn’t quite work. That and apparent IT issues culminated in a slightly poor service experience.
That said, the hotel itself has wonderful character and a great venue for a weekend stay.
Meals in the bar were tasty and well presented. The dining experience in the restaurant was a treat and every bit as good as our previous visit.
I would recommend visiting this lovely hotel but would hope that in the main tourist season that the service was improved.
I must point out, no one single staff member was responsible for the below average service experience. I would suggest that management are responsible for ensuring adequate staff are available to serve and look after the guests and provide support in the busier times.

Just returned from two nights in this amazingly unique hotel. Thoroughly enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere, wonderful room, and excellent service from the staff.
Didn't want to leave.
Wonderful place, highly recommend it for a visit. Food was very good didn't have to go anywhere else for the evening meal.

Just back from a nice 2 night break on a special 5pm deal. We paid the extra to upgrade to a 4 poster larger bedroom. These are mostly on the upper floor. We had room 12 which has a balcony with a nice view. However this is not a hotel for anyone with any kind of disability. Loads of stairs and no lifts. My wife has MS and barely managed. Having said that we got a nice welcome and all the staff were quite friendly and helpful. We ate the first night in the hotel and enjoyed our meal so no hesitation about recommending the food and breakfast was equally good. The lighting throughout the hotel is a bit subdued which made enjoying a book with a drink in the bar quite difficult. The room was nice as was the ensuite. The water was piping hot for a bath but unfortunately you couldn't get hot water through the shower. When we told reception she just said it was a common problem because it was such an old buildin and we did hear other gusts commenting on the same issue. We took a run up over the Struie to Lairg, had a lovely lunch in the Pier Cafe and then came back via Dornoch and did some shopping in the Jail (lovely shop) and had a delicious cake and coffee in the Courthouse cafe beside the Jail before returning back to The Tulloch Castle. Tulloch Castle is far from perfect but has character and is comfortable and welcoming and we'd certainly go back.

Room Tip: Room 12 had a comfy bed and good views. Make sure they've fixed the plumbing!

stayed at Tulloch castle as birthday gift for my husband and because its also our surname
arrived on Saturday night for two night stay
Booked in and got our keys to our room, which was a trek to get to
room was nice and clean
We had booked restaurant and when down bit earlier to get drink from bar
when we went in to the restaurant we was asked to pick where we wanted to sit
once seated we was not asked if we wanted a drink but was given a menu
we sat there for ages other people came in and was given lots of attention being given a basket with some bread in and jug of water and asked if they wanted a drink
i waited a bit longer and noticed that order had been taken from people that had arrived 30 mins after we came in
we then had our ordered taken but still waited ages to get
still waiting for a drink i went to bar myself to get some drinks to find out when i came back my starter on table
after a while a man came over and asked if everything was ok
i said no and explained how long we had waited and how the service was not Good yet was for others
he offered to take out drinks off the bill,
yet that was only two drinks
and he said sorry
next morning at breakfast i asked for some brown sauce but waited that long for it that i had finished my breakfast - i even had to ask for teaspoon for my cup of tea

the following night the service was great - but think maybe because i had complained the night before

Graham in the bar was great and ghost tour with him was fab he knew the history of the castle and was great company

Overall just think some staff need customer service training
other than that really enjoyed the place
and would visit again to see if any changes made

Stayed at the Tulloch Castle last night to celebrate our Wedding Anniversary. It is a beautiful atmospheric building. The staff were all quite young but very friendly and efficient.
We had a superb meal in the evening and breakfast was excellent too.
The room was quite small but had a lovely modern bathroom with a great shower.
All in all we had a lovely time and it was great value for money.
We will certainly go back
