Me and the frenchie plus a rather large turkey (dead I may add) arrived to this - oh so enchanting homely thatched cottage at the end of December for 4 days. Hosts were so wonderful, brining the turkey for us and trying to source a pan even from friends when the one we had brought was not suitable. Anyways, I doubt that the other fowl not in the cooking tin but running around outside would have been so cackly happy if they knew of the happenings going on inside. The place was so peaceful and the interior was decorated very tastefully making for a very nice visit. We invited two of our friends from Kilkenny the next day to savour the turkey and the 4 of us were there ensconced around the fireplace, me and the frenchie sitting in the window sill and with the turkey, best Christmas pudding and brandy butter - we had a second Christmas. If the hosts could have brought us the snow to complete the picture of Christmas - they would have. They were so kind and generous with their time and helped us in any way they could. We made it to Shirleys the local pub - bought tickets for their new year hamper draw and hey ho, a week or so back on the cobbled streets of Dublin, the call comes - congratulations. I loved all the towns we went to - Thomastown was a favourite. We will be back - hold the snow for us this time! Margaret and Didier
Our stay at the cottage was one of the highlights of our two week trip to Ireland. The setting; perfect. The host Dave; wonderful. I would recommend to anyone stay here for the memories you are looking for
The thatched cottage was just lovely - surrounded by flowers. My hosts were very kind. I recommend it as a very unique place to stay.
I can't say enough wonderful things about our stay at this cottage! We loved it and only regret not staying longer!
We were contacted before arrival with cottage information and directions. Upon arrival we were greeted by Dave. We had a parking space for our rental car. The cottage was spacious, clean and cozy. We were greeted with a blazing fire and with provisions of coffee/tea, sugar, milk, cookies, butter, bread and fresh farm eggs. Dave and Jadzia made it perfectly clear that they were there to help with anything we needed. We arrived on Good Friday and most restaurants and pubs were closed. Dave assisted us in getting dinner by ordering takeaway for us and even lending us cash to go pick it up (since nearest ATM was a bit of a drive). Dave provided us with directions to Kilkenny, parking options, two excellent restaurants and even some tips on seeing some local live music. We were traveling with our 4 year old and he even provided directions for the local playground.
The cottage itself is so completely charming. The garden outside is lovely. My little boy loved going to see the chickens in the morning and collecting the fresh eggs. We relaxed each night in front of the fire and watched movies. Just a couple minutes walk from the house is the Priory ruins. They are spectacular and we loved that you could just walk all around and explore. There is a pub and store right in town and it was only 10 min drive from the LOVELY and LIVELY city of Kilkenny.
This cottage is perfect if you are traveling with children. They can have their own bedroom and will love the garden with the swing and the chickens. They will love exploring the Priory and the little playground in Kells (10 min walk from cottage) is not to be missed!
Dave and Jadzia made us feel like close friends and offered stellar, exceptional hospitality. Dave even brought our son a chocolate bunny from the Easter Bunny as we were leaving on Easter Sunday! <3 <3 <3
We hope to come back again soon and will promise to stay longer. It was such a lovely stay! Book this and you won't want to leave either! My family only stayed 2 nights but I think if I could book again, I would plan on staying in this cottage a week and just take day trips to explore Ireland.
We loved this cottage. The welcome was very warm. There were fresh eggs from the owners chickens, milk, tea and bread for breakfast, The fireplace was so cozy.
Surpisingky for such an old cottage the shower is modern and spacious,
We had a lovely walk around the village and tried out the pub that was recommended.
The icing on the cake was being given two CDs of authentic Irish music and the owners own music!
