“Un coin de paradis, perfect place to relax and recharge the batteries”
Reviewed 5 November 2017 for a stay in October 2017

We spent a few days with our 3 kids at Divinessence, and those were the most peaceful, relaxing, rejuvenating days I had for a long time.
The place is located in a scenic location, surrounded by hills and pear treas.
I loved the fact that the kids had plenty of space to run around, and enjoy the kids games in the garden.
The accommodation is first class and the spring water swimming pool is a delight.

But the most admiring are the hosts. Angelique and Paolo are so friendly, making you feel like you are part of the family. And their extensive knowledge of healthy living and their ability to apply those principles daily to their place (no chemicals around, water is purified with plants, soap is natural, all cleaning products are natural,...) is truly impressive.
Paolo was kind enough to prepare some delicious meals for us using exclusively healthy and organic products.
I can't think of a better place for a retreat or for a break to recharge your batteries.
I can only recommend this piece of heaven on earth.

“Disappointing Hosts”

First off: the location of the home is marvellous, the views from the property breath-taking and the outdoor space well thought through. The region itself deserves 5 stars as it has beautiful rivers to bath close by and you can also pop down to the south coast for a day trip. Local markets are cute, too.

We were 4 people staying in one of the apartments (German and British) and have the following negative remarks which affected our rating:

NO PRIVACY
There is no privacy - as the picture of the house shows (each window is one apartment) your neighbour will sit on the terrace 1-2 meters away from you. This also means it is impossible to have private conversations and even if you don't want to you'll hear your neighbours all the time. When people are in the pool or are walking around it, they will always use your bit of terrace and can look into your living space unless you put down blinds (we didn't want to sit in the dark...).

WE DIDN'T FEEL WELCOME
It is hard to feel at home and relax not only because of other guests that are so close, especially when having young children but also because there are a book and signs dedicated to dictate how you should live and respect their way of life (e.g. a sign on the toilet of at least 10 lines telling you how to limit toilet paper, no Joke!). Although we tried to be very considerate we once forgot a snack container outside - the next morning the owner immediately reported this and asked for us to be more vigilant as it had blown onto the property. Of course we would never just throw plastic into nature. Why make your guests uncomfortable?

MONEY-FOCUSSED OWNERS
Once you arrive it feels like flying RyanAir - which is not expected at this level of costs. The hosts probably finance their own home with the rental (which is attached in L-shape) so they will offer you cremes, and soaps, and fruit gelly, and tea for large amounts of money (of course under the sign of organic well-being). We also forgot our bed linen (genuine mistake as it happens in the frenzy of holiday packing) and although we only needed linen for three beds (one double, two single) we were charged per person (4x). This would be no issue in modest accommodation but is hardly acceptable when you pay more than €1000 for one week as we did.

SMALL SPACE
The space is super small which is OK if you don't want to spend much time inside but we actually wanted to relax at the property.

Overall we would have wished to feel like we are wanted guests and experience hospitality. Instead it seemed like the owners were more concerned with making money out of organic lifestyle. Such as shame, we we were so excited about the stay...

Management Response
5 Sep 2016
Alexander, we are very surprised to hear about the above comments / issues AFTER your departure, whilst before and during your stay you were not verbal, to say the least ! First of all, you made your booking for 2 adults initially and at the last minute, you announced you will come with 2 extra adults. We mentioned (and this is also stated in our online description) that our living spaces are ideal for a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 children) and we expressed our concerns immediately to you. You never bothered to reply to our messages nor to contact us whatsoever prior to your arrival ! From our end, we are extremely transparent in the way we communicate. Indeed, our online description features: photos and all details (size, layout, content...), house linen is optional (again, this is clearly communicated online + was mentionned to you once again prior to your arrival as a reminder) and we supply this for a fee/pers. as many places do in the region. You made your booking knowingly, so nothing should come as a surprise once on site. In terms of privacy, you may have noticed that we are located on a 24 hectares of land (240.000 sqm) and that there is plenty of space as well as different areas around the house for everyone to enjoy and relax, i.e.: natural swimming pool (14X7m) with terrasse or lounge beach, summer kitchen, picnic area, deck chairs under the pine trees and by the river, TIPI, playground area for children and adults too... Divinessence is also renowned for its peacefulness and tranquility. This is a place where everyone's eco-responsibility is engaged and where guests have the possibility to choose to be implicated in reducing the environmental impact. We are sorry you are only able to focus on the financial side of things / people ! YES, we are passionate and caring about Divinessence as we created this exceptional space from a personal story and a life changing journey, from dream to reality and it is always a pleasure to host people who demonstrate RESPECT, CONSIDERATION and CARE about the space and the environment. We were notified by concerns raised by other guests and we were shocked to witness your particular lack of respect towards the outdoor spaces (i.e.: food/plastic/clothing/towels - all of this found across the land or in the pool). So indeed, we came to sollicite your cooperation in respecting the premises. Apparently you felt uncomfortable with this, maybe for a reason...? Divinessence is a place of sharing and it is important for us to communicate the way this space was conceived and how it functions, hence the few lines - not about toilet paper... sorry you misunderstood ;-) but about our phyto-epuration system and the way it works as most people are not always familiar with this. The book in question encompasses an array of information including useful facts about the place and lots of tourism tips. Too bad you only focused on page 1... It is important for us to respect privacy and we always remain very discreet towards our guests. We do exchange, share and engage whenever requested or appropriate - however, with you and your friends, we felt the distance from the start and respected that. We always create an "at-home" atmosphere and are open and friendly towards our guests. You clearly missed that part as well... We feel your points of view are not factual and go way beyond expressing your opinion, they are defamatory for the least and this is simply not acceptable.
