During my time in Monteverde, I visited the sanctuary several times to walk the trails. The forest is great to wander through - during my visits, I saw a group of armadillos, capuchin monkeys, coatis, agutis, a tiger beetle, and various birds. The folks at the reception are eager to talk about finds on the trails, particularly Felix, who is both knowledgeable about wildlife and very willing to answer questions. I also took a cooking class, which was lovely. I learned how to make a typical Costa Rican lunch, including picadillo, patacones, rice, tortillas, and more. Christopher, another member of the family who runs the sanctuary, was full of information (and jokes) about the process and history of the dishes. Would completely recommend stopping by the sanctuary during a stay in Monteverde.
Thank you very much for visiting the Ecological Sanctuary and supporting the local economy, we are glad that you have enjoyed the experience of sharing with us.

Amazing place to spend the morning and afternoon! There are a lot of cool spots to see on the property. My favourite place to visit was the waterfall! Also the wildlife is very diverse within the sanctuary. I saw coatis, armadillos, snakes, tiger beetles, birds, and etc. Moreover, the atmosphere is very welcoming and the people are very knowledgeable. I would definitely recommend adding the Sanctuary to the list of must see places within Monteverde!
We are glad that you have enjoyed the tour through our trails, with the payment of your entrance you support the conservation of this forest.

We spent four nights at the sanctuary. The sanctuary has extensive and well groomed hiking trails with beautiful lookout points. During our stay, we took multiple hikes through the sanctuary at different times of day. I saw a family of coatis, multiple agoutis, hummingbirds, capuchin monkeys, an olingo and a manakin. Walking through the forest was magical with so many butterflies. A highlight of our experience was having the opportunity to plant trees. We also loved cooking with our lovely hostess and chatting with her sons. Our hostess even woke up at five to say goodbye and was waiting with delicious coffee. The family is committed to sustainability and creating a haven for local wildlife!
We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us. With the payment of your entrance you help us protect this forest.
We spent an amazing few days here -both staying in the sanctuary as air bnb guests, but also taking advantage of the walking trails, night tours, and coffee available. We came away feeling that we had truly been somewhere special. Chris and his family are wonderful people who were so welcoming to us and clearly care deeply about the land. It was awesome talking conservation and seeing the evident passion they all have! We were given the option to plant our own trees to help with reforestation efforts and were promised updates on the growth as the months go by - how cool to have our own trees here for decades to come! We did our own hike around the trails (very well marked) and the guided night hike with Chris. We saw a good amount both times (tons of cool tarantulas) but really enjoyed hearing from Chris about all of the wildlife, particularly insects, we would’ve missed otherwise!
The whole time we were there, we felt like we had the sanctuary to ourselves. It was peaceful and lovely. I would highly recommend not only visiting for a less touristy option, but also staying and getting to know this family, whether through tours, cooking lessons, or their air bnb experience. One of the highlights of any trip I’ve taken!
Thank you again for a wonderful experience!
Thank you very much for all your comments, we really appreciate. Were glad that you enjoyed your stay with us.

I always try to support local enterprises when I travel and I was glad to have chosen this one. Meandering through 4 trail options that include ravines, coffee and banana plantations, and a neat resting area, it provides a diverse experience with a chance to see birds, mammals, and reptiles. The trails are well maintained and there are some great views along the way. The staff is really helpful and even provided complimentary lemonade when we returned. It is worth noting they are CASH only, but if you find yourself in the area, don't pass it up.
Thank you very much for your visit and for your comments, we are very happy that you have enjoyed the walk in to the trails. With the payment of your entrance fee you help us to mainten and protect these 48 hectares of forest.
Im gladly want to include that from today, we accept credit card payment .
Loved walking through their trails, it changes in elevation so you can see different plants/ animals in different places. Ran into some monkeys that were not at all happy to see me, but was such a great place to spend time.
