“Beautiful villa. Fantastic food by Champika”

We stayed here for 4 nights, 2 families, total of 7 people. We had four bedrooms, and had the whole villa to ourselves. The villa was fantastic, beautiful comfortable rooms and facilities. The cook Champika cooked us some delicious meals, always more than we could eat. We enjoyed chatting with her, and learning some secrets to her Sri Lankan cooking. Nothing was too much trouble. We also got to experience shopping with Champy for our supplies in the local markets. Marly took us out in the tuk tuk whenever needed, and helped organise a second tuk tuk so we could all go out together. Even Marly's Dad climbed the coconut tree and cut some down for us to have a drink. Great location, beautiful gardens. Only a short tuk tuk ride to the beautiful beach of Unawatuna, in fact we even walked to the beach one day. Truly enjoyed our experience here and would highly recommend.

Liked best: The wonderful cooking by Champika. Felt very much at home.
Liked least: Directions to the property. Our driver took quite a while, and needed a lot of help from others to find it.

“Perfect non-commercial place for a nice, quiet stay”

The villa is just perfectly located not far from the most beautiful beaches of Unawatuna and most known places, however you will enjoy the quiet stay and local life that will give you unforgettable and real experience of Sri Lanka.
The villa staff is very helpful with shopping and preparing everything. We were very impressed on the local security guy, who was very professional - not visible when not needed and present when we had any question.
We had experienced fantastic holidays there and we can highly recommend it.

“A real piece of paradise”

Our arrival at Villa Araliya took some time. The roads are bumpy and it is a few km back from the seafront. This was causing us a bit of concern but any doubts we had were soon forgotten as we were welcomed by Champika and her amazing team. The villa is located in a couple of acres of lush greenery, something we miss living in Dubai. The pool is at the perfect temperature, it could probably do with some maintenance but it's nothing to grumble about. The rooms have decent beds and good mozzie nets (essential here). We were a group of 10, and it would have been easy to spend the whole day in the villa and grounds and not see another person - you might however encounter a snake, monkey, frog or giant monitor lizard as we did! The biggest issue we had was the lack of hot water.....there was a problem with the water tanks. However, you need to take a step back and realise that this is a developing nation, still recovering from a major catastrophe so we didn't moan about it. Champika and her team are absolutely amazing. Even though she wanted to cook European food for us we insisted that every meal should be local. Egg hoppers, string hoppers, prawn curry, dahl, poppadoms are just a few of the delights she brought to the table. She even gets up at 3am to cook the hoppers at home for the guests in the villa.

“An amazing stay in an amazing villa”

We were a group of friends coming in from Australia, Hong Kong, Spain and UK to celebrate a "significant" birthday and we had a wonderful time at Villa Araliya. It is a beautiful house and everything went smoothly from the day I booked (one year ahead!) until the day we left.
Champika, our housekeeper, was a total star - our "fixer". She made sure that we could do everything that we wanted to do. Once she got used to the idea that we ONLY wanted Sri Lankan food, she produced some amazing dishes. Our favourite breakfast was egg hoppers. She also made us a breakfast of string hoppers one day. Delicious! As she knew it was my birthday, on the last day we had my official Sri Lankan celebration. She (or the boys) decorated the villa with balloons overnight so that when we got up it was looking very festive. We had a special breakfast (rice cakes) with candle ceremony included. And the evening was a feast of Sri Lankan specialities. It was a very special day, much appreciated by everyone.
Champika put us in touch with Surein who was able to arrange all our transportation including a trip to Yala. He was great and I would recommend him to anyone going there.
All in all, it was a fantastic trip. We all loved it.

“A little piece of paradise”

We spent nearly a month travelling around Sri Lanka in a group of 8 people, and were so happy to arrive at Villa Araylia and realise we had left the best to last. Stepping through the front gate was like stepping into a garden paradise full of exotic flowers and edible plants. The house was spacious, cool and well appointed and the bedrooms are just what you imagine they should be, with soft comfy mattresses, crisp white sheets and elegantly flowing mosquito nets. Our room had an outside bathroom with a resident chameleon who didn't mind sharing. The pool was in constant use and each morning we had the delight of watching a Kingfisher go through his daily bathing ritual, diving down into the water and then flying up to the roof to preen. There are several areas in the house to sit and relax, so even with a large group you can find your own quiet corner. The staff were discreet, efficient and helpful, and one of the things we enjoyed most was shopping with the cook in the food markets in Galle. All in all I would highly recommend Villa Araylia and would say it is very good value for money. It gave us a quiet, relaxing and peaceful ending to our Sri Lankan holiday and it was very hard to leave.
