We had wonderful stay at the Villa. We are two families travelling with small kids (2x 3years and 2x 1years) and Shalini was just right for us! They had baby cot and high chair etc...The staff Kamindaka and Dammika are amazing! They arranged trips, looked after our kids and introduced us to the wonders of Sri Lankan food! It felt like home.
We have just spent an amazing 3 weeks visiting to Sri Lanka, and our week spent in this beautiful Villa was the perfect way to conclude our holiday. Pictures don't really do the Villa justice. It is far more impressive in real life. Spacious, airy, open, with lots of french doors opening on to different aspects of the beautiful garden and allowing the breeze to flow through. The bedrooms also open out to the garden and swimming pool through double french doors, but also have good air conditioning for a comfy nights sleep, super comfy beds with great linen and an excellent mosquito net for those unwanted visitors.
The location is perfect. Quiet and secluded yet a short walk to Unawatuna Beach with its myriad of restaurants, bars and shops, and a tuk tuk ride away from many other attractions, including the amazing Galle Fort about 10 minutes away.
After a day out exploring it was bliss to return to the Villa for a swim in the beautiful pool and to enjoy a drink in the garden watching monkeys and birds in the trees. There was even a mongoose that passed through the garden a couple of times a day.
The Villa's staff are great. Housekeeper Kamindaka was always available to help us out with bookings and suggestions, while the food from cook Dammika was simply superb, with a seemingly endless repertoire of delicious local dishes.
The only negative was that we had to leave! Hopefully we will be back.
Shalini Villa is every bit as beautiful as it appears on the pictures and more besides. We spent our precious family holiday here this year and what a truly wonderful experience it was. Behind the villa’s gate you step into a tranquil paradise! The villa is spacious with lovely high ceilings, a well-equipped kitchen, super comfy beds and plenty of sitting areas where you can be together or spread out. And if all this is not enough, then there is Kamindika, the charming and discreet housekeeper quietly seeing to your every need, from a cup of tea delivered on a tray when you get up to organising a tuk tuk to take you to the fish market to buy freshly landed fish that the cook can then turn into a delicious meal!
We had our teenage sons with us who delighted in the regular visits to the garden by a troop of monkeys. I am a bit of a ‘twitcher’ so loved the array of brightly coloured birds in the villa’s gorgeous garden.
The internet was crucial for some of our party and didn’t let us down. Contact with the outside world was maintained throughout!
Our favourite beach was Wijaya a short tuk tuk ride away where our youngest son swam in the safety of the not too deep lagoon and was joined, or probably the other way around, by a leatherback turtle, what an experience! Sri Lanka has crept under our skin on this our first visit and if you plan a visit I can’t recommend enough the serenity of this beautiful house.
Our family of four stayed in this villa in July 2017 for four nights. We wish we could have stayed longer! It has an excellent location - it is very quiet but within short walking distance of the main road where you could easily catch a tuk tuk. You can also walk to Unawatuna beach from here. The villa was clean and very spacious. Our girls loved having their own rooms and bathroom. We spent a lot of time in the lovely pool which was a perfect temperature and all to ourselves. The staff was unobtrusive but always available if needed. We would love to return one day. We highly recommend staying here.
The villa is neatly situated about 10 mins in TukTuk from Galle. It is a short 5 min walk to the beach. Breakfast service is provided free, although the guest pays for the food. Nice swimming pool and many wild animals to be seen in the garden - particularly in late afternoon). Best to take a TukTuk to the better local restaurants (we liked Wijaya Beach and Bedspace Kitchen) but these and others are in walking distance.
