Description: The Rock Restaurant, in Michamvi Pingwe on Zanzibar Island, is an extraordinary restaurant, located in a unique position, on a rock in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The contrast of the unspoiled natural setting, down played decor and design vs the international standard food preparation and presentation is as novel and rewarding as its location. Serving up to 14 tables, all facing a wonderful terrace on the Ocean, the restaurant is connected to the mainland by boat, within high tide, and reachable by foot within low tide. It is also easy reachable by sea if coming by boat from an excursion. Perfect for a romantic dinner for two, or for a memorable evening with friends or family, it is open for lunch and dinner and is available to be reserved for small groups and ceremonies. The Rock kitchen offers a superlative fresh seafood menu, including vegetarian plates and a kid's menu the service is informal but accurate and elegant.

The location can’t be beat, and the restauranteurs — who encourage you to instagram and Facebook your experience — know it. Sitting on an rock outcropping that either is just offshore or rises from the beach depending on the tides, it is an incredibly picturesque setting. That said, the food was good but not particularly memorable. My father ordered the Zanzibari spaghetti (“Tambi”) which was probably the best dish at the table, and the ice cream was also quite good, infused with local spices and not too sweet. We also enjoyed the octopus salad starter. But I was deeply disappointed that cocktails were not offered that night because of the lack of ice, so if you are going hoping to enjoy a drink from the best looking cocktail list I’ve seen on Zanzibar, temper your expectations.

We dined here as we felt like treating ourselves to a unique once in a lifetime experience and we were not disappointed. We both had starter and the seafood platter to share and both courses were sublime. The views are absolutely breathtaking the food was fresh, tasty and the staff professional but you could have a laugh with them.Ok it is rather pricey but we believe you only get what you pay for and in this case it was quality.

Blimey, what a location; on a rock off the island, walk there for a meal and back to main Zanzibar island on a boat. Truly romantic site. That is the USP of this place
