“Pining for Pineta”
Reviewed 11 May 2014 for a stay in April 2014

My husband and I spent 5 blissful days of our Italian honeymoon at Trullo Nella Pineta. Even before we arrived, owners Scott & Jessica had provided ample information about the property and gave us peace of mind as we headed on our journey to Puglia.

The location of the trullo is sublime. It is an incredibly peaceful place to call home with many half or full day excursions nearby. We experienced some of the best nights of sleep ever. It was amazing to wake up in total darkness and then flood the place with sunshine after opening the shutters. On our first lazy morning, I felt as though we were part of a James Turrell installation as we watched the light tiptoe throughout the trulli. One night a powerful storm blew threw. It was an impressive amount of rain and wind that somehow did not knock out the power. It was incredible to listen to the wicked weather from within the trullo, all the while feeling very safe and cozy.

Not only do Scott and Jessica create a warm, welcoming place to stay, but they provide helpful tips on where to go, what to eat and how to do it all! Since we had spent 3 days on our personally planned tour of Rome prior to arriving, it was refreshing to show up to a place that had been so well researched by locals. At first I felt like we were flipping to the back of the textbook to peek at the answers, but then I realized that the owners are eager to have their guests enjoy Puglia to the extent that they do. Thanks to their advice, we were able to swiftly shift from first to top gear and immediately fall in love with Puglia <3

We spent equal parts of time home and away. My husband and I enjoy cooking, so we took full advantage of fresh, local produce and the well stocked kitchen. Everything was at our fingertips. Had the weather been more cooperative, I know that dining al fresco would have been the way to go. Instead we dined at the beautiful blue table and admired the view framed by the dutch door.

We had two incredible meals in the town of Cisternino. If I start to type the details, I will drool on the keyboard. So instead I will tell you not to doubt dining recommendations made by the owners!

As for our excursions, one day we drove to Ostuni, parked the car and then spent a long afternoon twisting and turning throughout the whitewashed village. After that, we rolled down the hill to see the seaside castello di Villanova. On the quick trip back to Pineta, we stopped for some groceries at Olive. Although the market was named differently in the GPS, it was nonetheless easy to find with the directions provided by the owners.

Another day we took a longer drive south. Driving along the highway with the sea on the left and olive groves on the right was gorgeous. But none of that compared to the all-you-can eat feast of Baroque-era churches in the town of Lecce. We leisurely walked the town and admired the endless architectural intricacies. This trip could have been less than a full day, but our slow, savoring pace meant that we left the "Florence of the South" after the sun had set.

If you've read this far, then you may be able to sense that we have nothing but good things to say about our stay at Trullo nella Pineta. We loved every minute of it and can not wait to invite friends to join us for a return visit.

:: GPS TIP :: Wait until you are at the intersection of the main road and the access road to drop a location pinpoint. If you drop it at the house, it will suggest some very fun backroads to access the house, but not at all the most practical, nor the most direct.
