This was our first experience of the Caribbean, and after much soul searching we decided to visit just a few months after the island was devastated by hurricane Maria, and we absolutely made the right decision. What a beautiful island and warm and welcoming islanders. They say this is one of the few islands that Columbus would still recognise and we could believe it. While the beaches are not expanses of white sand, they are lovely. The rivers and waterfalls stupendous (visit the Emerald Pool) and the vegetation is in full recovery mode. We were staying on the north coast and the surf was vigorous to say the least, but swimming in the rivers was also lovely, and where you could find a sheltered bay the snorkelling was superb.
Sea Cliff cottages are individual cottages all with amazing views of the Caribbean, with 5 minute walk down steps to the beach and wonderful swimming river. The cottages, just up the hill from the village of Calabishie, were lovely not overly luxurious but clean and simple with all the amenities you would require. Owners Gwen and Jim did a remarkable job of getting them in shape for us just 3 months after total devastation.
We would highly recommend a visit if the Caribbean experience you want is an authentic one, with stunning views warm and friendly people and a remarkable island.More
