We were happy with the rooms and location in Mallaig was excellent and although no lift we were helped in many ways with our elderly mother. The breakfast filled us up and waiters couldn't be more friendly . A couple of small things we asked to be rectified were done immediately and all said and done we would stay there again. We realised the breakfast wasn't included in the room cost so budgeted for this however it was this factor which stopped us eating in the hotel restaurant in the evening. It's a quaint place with character and suited our taste in a village setting.

Mallaig is a sleepy little harbour village in scotland, with a lot of airbnb options, but since we were travelling during peak holiday season, all places were full and we had to book ourselves into the West Highland Hotel.
The rooms are unkempt, sheets and blankets dirty. Considering we paid through our noses, the rooms could have been kept better. The bathroom was old and run down, the shower not working properly.
The view from the room is lovely and that's about all that there is to this place.
The breakfast not included in the room tariff and was really steeply priced. As for the breakfast spread, less said the better...hardly any options and very poor service.
The hotel does not have a concierge service, so be prepared to carry your luggage up two/three flights of stairs.
I have a bad back and after much requesting the lady at the front desk got two boys to help my husband carry the luggage up.
All in all, the place is No value for money!!

We stayed for two nights in a 'Superior Double' room which was neither superior or we expected in a 'double.'
The best feature of this hotel is its location; we were on the Isle of Skye all day and took the ferry to Mallaig and needed a place to stay.
The room size was fine however the bed was a very uncomfortable double bed which was so small that I almost fell on the floor! The bathroom was adequate. The cleanliness of the room was adequate.
The room was very overpriced which I attributed to its location and the limited number of choices to stay in Mallaig. We would definitely NOT stay here again.

An overnight stay after a rail journey over the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct of Harry Potter fame. A short climb up a hill just after leaving the station so very convenient. A more traditional hotel with great views out to sea and comfortable rooms.Staff were friendly, pleasant and helpful. A very good breakfast with a good choice freshly cooked but did wait some time hence why only 4 stars given. Also there is no lift so could be challenging for people with mobility issues.

Whilst the hotel itself has some pleasant areas - especially the restaurant (we could not use because not dog friendly and so had to eat meals in an unattractive bar area) - our room was terrible. Despite having had a refurb, clearly done to a small budget, nothing could make up for the fact that we paid £120 to be in a very, very small double room overlooking the car park at the rear of the hotel.

Penny pinching was evident: two plastic sachets of combined shampoo and shower gel being the prime example. The previous evening we had stayed in a Days Inn at the side of a motorway, paid less than half, had a bigger and better room and had much better toiletries and view.

I was told that this is the best hotel in Mallaig and I have no reason to doubt that. It may be that we had an awful room because we were travelling with our dog. It may just be that rooms in Mallaig, being a ferry port, are expensive.

On the plus side breakfast was good and that earns the second star in my rating.

We will not be staying here again.

Room Tip: Do not stay in annexe area where rooms overlook the car park.
