Glayva is a luxury self catering holiday cottage set in the pretty, whitewashed fishing village of Lochcarron in north west Scotland. Lochcarron lies among some of Scotland's finest scenery and is close to Plockton, Applecross, Torridon, Shieldaig and the Isle of Skye. The cottage sits 10 metres from the shore of beautiful Loch Carron and affords uninterrupted south facing sea views over the sea loch to the hills beyond.
The house was renovated and was sympathetically modernised to sleep four in comfort. To celebrate the renovation, the cottage was renamed Glayva. This is an English language interpretation of the Gaelic words "gle mhath" which translate as "very nice" or "very good".

The cottage has two good-sized bedrooms, one double with a large en-suite bathroom, and a spacious twin room which has an adjacent shower room. There is a large and well appointed kitchen/diner with modern SMEG appliances and a dining table which has been designed so you can look out over the loch while you dine (we've seen dolphins, porpoises and otters from the window - so keep your eyes peeled!)
There's also a relaxing lounge with a woodburning stove, maps, books, games, iPod dock, CDs, DVD player, Nintendo Wii and satellite TV. As part of the renovation process the cottage was fully insulated with modern materials and new central heating and hot water systems were installed - this means that Glayva is one of the warmest and cosiest cottages around!

We have just returned from a week's stay in Glayva Cottage and have had a wonderful time.
The cottage is in the perfect location for exploring the area and is blessed with beautiful views over the Loch, we spent many happy hours staring out the window or sitting outside (we were lucky with the weather) taking in the scenery.
There are some lovely walks in the area and some scenic and breathtaking (in more ways than one!) drives.
We ate in most evenings as the cottage was very well-equipped for us to do so and the local shops well-stocked with everything we needed.
The hosts' communication was first class and we were confident that, should we have had any issues (we didn't) that they would have been swiftly rectified.
Thank you for a wonderful trip away after a tough 18 months.

Wonderful holiday
As soon as we walked in the door of Glayva we felt at home. The cottage is a wee gem with everything you will need for a comfortable and relaxing break. We absolutely loved it. Lochcarron is a great location to tour around Wester Ross and Skye and the food and welcome at Lochcarron Hotel was amazing!

Greatstay
I had a lovely stay in Glayva with my husband and 2 teenage sons just as lockdown was easing. The cottage was clean, well equipped and the decoration showed a great attention to detail. The views from the cottage are beautiful and I enjoyed several mornings sitting on the bedroom window seat with a coffee and my book. The local Spar was handy and well stocked. Lochcarron was a great base for visits to Skye, Applecross and even Inverness. My husband enjoyed a round on the golf course and there were lots of opportunities for cycling and walking. Neil and Carol were welcoming and on the one occasion we had to contact them were very efficient.

Fantastische Unterkunft

Great cottage, lovely location.
Cottage has everything one needs for a comfortable holiday, location is a great base for visiting various places of interest on the west coast of Scotland.
Loch Carron itself has a good local shop and also a choice of places to eat.
Local seafood as good as it gets.
A visit to Skye a must, scenery amazing.

Glayva Cottage Lochcarron
The property was well appointed generally however there were some areas which needed improvement.
In particular, a shower to the en-suite would have been helpful, the furniture in the lounge was tatty and not comfortable, the TV was too small, it would have been useful to have more mirrors particularly on the ground floor. The mirrors that were in place upstairs were badly positioned and not big enough in the main bathroom.
On a positive note, the owners responded quickly when we contacted them on a minor issue. The location is good for the local shop and bistro. Walking is good in the area with a variety of fitness levels.
The views from the property are stunning from all of the front windows.

Excellent and welcoming accommodation.
Just had one of our best weeks self catering holiday in the beautiful village of Lochcarron, complimented by the excellent accommodation provided by Glayva Cottage. The cottage is well equipped with everything you could ask for, homely, comfortable and with stunning views from the front of the cottage. Ideally located for visiting other areas including Skye and Plockton. The hosts, Carol and Neil were readily available if needed (which we didn't) and have a cottage to be proud of. Would definitely book again.

Outstanding cottage in a wonderful location
We have been self-catering taking holidays on and around the west coast of Scotland and the islands for many years. Glayva Cottage is probably the best we have ever found, combining as it does high-quality accommodation with a fabulous location.
The cottage has been sympathetically modernised, is spacious, extremely well-equipped and provided us with the perfect base. The owners, Neil and Carol, are great communicators when booking and they were extremely helpful and sympathetic when we needed to postpone our holiday due to a medical issue. When you are in the cottage, they make it clear they are available to assist with any questions you may have, but they won't be paying you a visit unless you ask.
Lochcarron is a lovely, peaceful village and if you want to just chill out, there is ample seating along the loch side, and a pub, bistro and café, together with a very well-stocked Spar shop. If touring is your preference, the location again is perfect, with easy access to many lovely places, such as the Isle of Skye, Applecross, Plockton, Torridon and - a little further afield - the wonderful National Trust for Scotland gardens at Inverewe (NT England members get free entry). Much nearer, and on a much smaller scale, are the beautiful gardens at Attadale, directly across the loch from Lochcarron.
We will certainly be returning to Lochcarron (we have stayed there many times before), and Glayva Cottage will be always be our first-choice accommodation from now on.

The cottage is in the centre of the pretty village of Lochcarron, overlooking the sea loch. Near to Skye, Torridon, Plockton, Applecross and Sheildaig it makes a super base for exploring beautiful Wester Ross and beyond.
