Positives
+ absolutely beautiful thatched cottage with cosy lounge & large sunny kitchen
+ excellent communication with the owner to book and answer queries
+ spotlessly clean & well presented
+ very well equipped kitchen & board games in the lounge
+ new fluffy towels & lovely new bedding on the wonderfully comfortable beds
+ very quiet location, yet 2 pubs and village shop just 5 minutes walk away
+ delightful stream 2 minutes walk away for paddling in summer
+ great children's playground about 5 minutes walk following the stream
+ lovely walks can be taken from the front door
+ great power shower
+ piano in lounge
+ lovely sized garden backing onto fields
Negatives
- downstairs bathroom (although there is a toilet in the bathroom and a separate toilet next to it and it is all very new & shiny)
- the upstairs is small as it's just the original building, one nice sized bedroom which has a double and single bed and space for a travel cot (provided) & another very cosy room with 2 single beds

“You can hear yourself think!”
Reviewed 4 November 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We have recently returned from a weeks stay at The Swallows. The cottage has fabulous kerb appeal and it looks lovely from the outside. Inside it is very quaint and comfortable. The lounge is the original part of the cottage and has huge thick walls and uneven floors. Plus a lovely log fire :-). The rear houses the kitchen, cloakroom and bathroom. Yes the bathroom is snug but thats to be expected in a cottage like this.
The whole decor/furnishings are inkeeping with a building of this age. Everything was avalaible for you and we were never cold (even during the storm of 2013!)
It really is a hidden germ tucked away from the hussle and bussle of everyday life

More logs can be purchased at the ironmongers in Wareham (behind Sainsburys) as the village shop had none.

Monkey World and The Blue Pool are well worth a visit. Good for kids of all ages and not over priced.

Wareham is good for getting your vital bits and bobs. Williams the bakery is a firm favourite with my family.

Swanage and Weymouth are both a good day out. Plenty to see and do

“A mixture of old and new.”
Reviewed 3 October 2013 for a stay in September 2013

We recently stayed at Swallows Cottage for a week because we used to live in another part of Dorset and we wanted to sample a different part, more quiet.
The cottage itself is a mixture of new and ancient, the kitchen, bathroom and toilet are new and the rest is ancient, very much down to taste. The kitchen is large and well equipped with French doors out into a good sized garden with a solid well built sun room, and field views. The bathroom and toilet are good but I would have preferred a shower cubicle instead of a bath with a shower in it. It is a bit difficult getting in and out of the bath in the small space. In the old part of the cottage the most difficult thing is the stair case which is very steep and goes around through a low door frame in a half circle to upstairs, if anyone has any mobility issues they would not be able to get upstairs. I am 6ft 2ins tall and I had to duck under every doorway in the old part of the house. There is no toilet upstairs and so you have to go downstairs and through the house if you need one at night. The furniture although very quaint could do with some renovation or replacing, a few pounds spent on ebay would do wonders. (note to owner). Also a television large enough to view properly would not go amiss. There is B.T. wifi which is quite fast, we found ourselves watching programmes on our laptop as they were better, but really you go on holiday to get out, not watch telly.
There is a small store, a post office and two pubs in Bare Regis oh and a church. We found that the food prices in the area were high, all of the pubs charge restaurant prices and there are no fast food or take away venues. I say this because we live in an expensive part of the country but pub food does not cost as much as in this area. If you take your family out for lunch or dinner, expect to pay a lot for it. Lulworth Cove is the nearest place to visit but parking costs £3 for 2 hours.
There are places to visit like Sea Life in Weymouth but again expensive for what it is, you can get vouchers on line to get in cheaper but you need access to a printer to print them off, not very convenient when on holiday. We had a good half day at Monkey World, that is reasonably priced and well worth the visit, the television coverage has obviously done it good.
We had good weather whilst we were there, there are some good walks, we like walking and so it was ideal for us but we felt that there is not enough there for a second visit.
The big spiders are very friendly, one came and sat with me to watch television one evening.

“The Perfect Cottage in the perfect location”
Reviewed 14 June 2013 for a stay in June 2013

A lovely looking cottage set amongst equally lovely thatched cottages in a quiet location away from traffic. For us the cottage was perfect. Ideal for our 2 Labradors with an enclosed garden easily accessed from the kitchen/diner. Whilst on the subject of the kitchen, it was very well equipped and in very good order. The kitchen is very roomy and ideal for the family to spread out and relax. A lovely bathroom with a second toilet downstairs. The living room is very spacious with a cracking old Inglenook open fire (We didn't have need to light it thankfully). For those who want a sing song, there's a piano though slightly in need of tune. The upstairs master bedroom is spacious but the second bedroom would require some good teamwork when manouvering, not a lot of space. Large wardrobe but no other storage space. Extra space available in the Summer Room outside which also has BBQ, tent, sun shield, a few rackets etc. The location was ideal. 17 miles south and you find fantastic beaches, many dog friendly (Check online as time of year alters your doggies freedom) There is so much to do and see with both the Monkey World and Tank Museum within 6 miles of the cottage. Places recommended - Compton Acres, Corfe Castle, Lulworth Cove & Durdle Door. So much more. The two pubs are both 5 minutes walk. We found the Royal Oak to have very nice food. For an upmarket meal, try Hambro Arms in Milton Abbas. 15-20 minutes north, fab food and menu! Our dogs loved it and so did we. This cottage could create a problem for people with disabilities. Very steep stairs.
