Our extended families have been coming here, almost consistently, for over 45 years now, drawn back every time by the by the amazing prairie landscape at the top of this glacial-relict plateau, the gorgeous little headwater lakes (especially Lake Katherine and Whirlpool), the bison grazing in the mixed-grass prairie, the occasional sights of bears, deer, even elk (and the occasional silent wolf...in the fall).
The combination of the well-supplied and beautifully maintained townsite, the tight controls on further commercial development, the consistently well maintained cottages in the cottage area, the gorgeous flowers in the various 'green thumbs' flower garden and shrub arrangements...and the adjacent wilderness of the Nature Reserve...it's an almost incomparable, and certainly it's a unique, package of experiences for the traveler needing something different, something more authentic, something that offers a diverse exposure to both comfort and wilderness.
Very hard to find this combination anymore, certainly south of the 58th or 59th parallel, anyway. Maybe Estes Park in Colorado, or Banff in Alberta, could offer as much maybe 40 years ago before rampant commercialism killed much of the best of their formerly wonderful combinations of those key attributes...
For those loving heritage 'frontier' style buildings, the Depression-era stone and timber structures at the incredible golf course, and the wonderful little Gatekeeper's Cottage, are worth seeing alone. The McCreary entrance apparently is the last one like it Canada, which is saying something, given our great history of federal Park developments...
The restaurant at the golf course overlooking the spectacular 9th green, 'Clubhouse 204', offers an outstanding menu and wine list. While we have had 'average' meals there over the years, this year's and last year's meals were pretty much 'amazing', according to our party of 7 last night.
Camping can be amazing. Years ago, camping with our dogs the last weekend before the Park closed up in the fall, my morning walk found a perfectly preserved entire elk skull on the rocky lake shores, triggering a respect for the architecture of the animal skull and skeleton that continues to grow in me. Pretty hard to have experiences like that in many places anymore, pretty much anywhere...
Can't recommend the diversity of experiences here too much!
Come and enjoy it, and be respectful, please; we all need to keep our 'footprints' in these parks as small as possible, so they'll still be amazing for the next generations we care so much about.

Very cool and lots of outdoor activities available. Gorgeous sunsets and kind people. Food was very good but expensive. Very touristy and they take advantage of it. Great place for dogs! Everyone has one.

The camping area in Riding Mountain National Park is excellent! Toilette's and showers the best I have seen in a national park in western Canada! Camping in a nice wooded area! The possibilities to see animal in this park great however I was unlucky with the animal but received great photos of birds! I did see a black bear on road 19 about 75 meters from the eastern gate. It was the biggest black bear I did see in Canada during all my traveling! The bear stayed in the grass at the left side of the road, look at both direction of the road, jumped out into the middle of the road and up on the other side. The jump with a touch down in the middle was more than ten meters. This was a very impressive action of the huge black bear! I was looking for Moose but I failed to see them! I did see a lot of suitable habitat for this animal but no Moose! Unfortunately a lot of these habitats are along highway number 10 which is carrying a lot of traffic to / from Fort Dauphin! I do recommend follow road 19 and visit Lake Katherine in the early morning to see the Loom bird, continue to the branch to road Rolling river this is at least good for birding Falcons and other birds in wet areas at the side of the road. Check on the map there you are since this road are very long and finish outside the national park.

My wife and I have been coming here for over 30 years. Lots to do, gorgeous nature, great shops and dining options, nice beach and the lake lives up to its name.
