Be careful when making your reservation with this hotel. I did write that we are traveling with a dog and a child, which was clearly stated in our booking made in May. Upon arrival at the hotel, a lady at the reception informed us that we have two pay additional €10 for our dog. The next day an obviously stressed female manager at the desk told me to pay €20 per night extra for our dog. I was impressed by the price increase and that no one told us this beforehand. In addition, another gentlemen (son or husband of the lady owner) told me that our dog is considered large and thus the price. In essence, the men reported about bad experiences with dogs in the past. But I was thinking that the behavior of a dog is not dependent on the sitze but rather how well it is trained. Anyway, the managed to destroy our vacation experience apart from additional €60 which we were never informed of. The air-conditioning was not working in our room.

The owners of Hotel Fornaci are fraudulent, disrespectful and abusive. We made a hotel reservation with Hotel Fornaci for August 7, 2016. The reservation was confirmed by email and our credit card was billed on June 30, 2016, in the amount of $189.65. The payee on the credit card was the name of the owner, Maria Grazia [--]. When we arrived on the evening of August 7th, 2016, the owner’s husband was very agitated and defensive and told us we had no reservation. He claimed we never confirmed it and so he let it go. He said the hotel was full and that he had no room available for us. I told him that we had confirmed the reservation by email, and showed the email to him, and also told him that our credit card had been charged for $189.65. Since he had no room, I requested a refund. He then became extremely upset, shouting at me that they did not charge my card, that he had no room and to leave his hotel. Despite this extremely disrespectful behavior, I patiently showed him proof of the charge on my credit card. He then called his wife, Maria, who came out and claimed there was no such charge on their bank records. Since there was no point in continuing the conversation, I told him I would leave, and as I was walking toward the door, I turned to say how disappointed I was in the way he had handled this and treated us. This man then physically pushed me toward the door, shouting obscenities at me and threatening to do me bodily harm. It was quite scary, as he was over 6 feet tall and I am 5’3”. I have never been treated so terribly by any establishment anywhere in the world. My credit card company undertook an investigation of this fraudulent charge and found that Hotel Fornaci, and in particular, Maria Grazia [--], did, in fact, receive the funds from my credit card bank on June 30, 2016. The charge was considered fraudulent and was reversed on my card. I will never contact this hotel again and I advise everyone who does to be very careful in their dealings with them.

we are very sorry to read your words about us. If we were "Fraudulent, Disrespectful and Abusive", how could we own and manage a hotel for years and have guests, most of them (fortunately) satisfied and who review us fine?
Anyway, we admit the following faults on our side:
- There was surely a mistake with your reservation and in fact we had no rooms available on the evening you came here. We apologize for that.
- We were as much disappointed as you were on that night and maybe for this reason you perceived the staff behaviour as "agitated".
We don't admit the following faults and behaviours you ascribe to us:
- We never threaten phisically anyone, and we did not tell you to leave our hotel forever, we instead offered to call other hotels in the nearby to see if they had accomodation for you. Maybe there was a misunderstaning due to our language pronunciation and the "agitated" situation.
- We would like to assure (if ever needed) that we don't take money from anyone's pocket / account / credit card without a reason and as you saw you received your funds back.
In conclusion, we would like to tell our dear guests and those intended to come here at Hotel Fornaci in this 2017, that we will do, as usual, our best to make your stay at Hotel Fornaci a memorable one!

My husband, 2 teenage daughters & myself have just returned from spending 9 days at this delightful hotel, which felt more like a home from home 😊 Rooms were comfortable, clean, spacious & air conditioned. I looked forward to breakfast every day - delicious & so much choice. The swimming pool was fantastic - spotlessly clean & maintained to the highest standard, as were the surrounding garden & pool areas. The heart & soul of this fabulous hotel is the truly wonderful owner's husband Remy, who works tirelessly to ensure that your experience at Fornaci is special; he made such an impression that we can't wait to go back as soon as possible! Great value, beautiful, quiet location...do go and visit, you will have an unforgettable holiday 💜

We booked this hotel based on the Trip Advisor reviews for the last 2 nights of our vacation and unfortunately it ruined our previously amazing trip. The location is not very good, far from the centre of Peschiera - no 40 minute "stroll" as advertised.
We arrived early and they seemed to be in total chaos quite full with many guests leaving. So the owner's son-in-law asked us to come back later, complaining about his staff being ill and inept, which should have set off alarm bells, but since we had pre-paid we had no option. It started raining so after an early lunch we returned to find our room still not ready. Eventually we were able to check in around 2pm. After paying the city tax we were given our key and no other information about the hotel. We were horrified to find that our 2nd floor room was not as advertised on Booking.com website 17m², but around 10m², tiny and clastrophobic with no view of the lake and no balcony. It was facing the back of the hotel so to keep cool the shutter had to be closed. We asked to change rooms and were told that we could pay extra for a larger room but it was only available for the first night. After the debacle of waiting for a room the first day, we decided to put up with it and try to spend as much time outside as possible. It was then galling to see that you could still book rooms through Booking.com and there appeared to be 2 rooms with balconies which were not occupied.
Despite being advertised on booking.com as a dog friendly hotel "Charges MAY be applicable" they seemed to be put out we had a dog. We explained that usually the dog sleeps in the car, but there was no shade to park our car, we couldn't leave the sunroof and windows fully open due to the intermittent rain, so the dog had to sleep in our room in the shower area since there was no space anywhere else in the room.
On the 2nd evening we returned around 10:30, put our dog to bed in the car and when we collected our key the owners daughter asked us to pay for our previous day's drinks, then went to our room. At 10:45 there was a phone call and it was the son-in-law asking us to come down to reception. He then started barracking my husband about the dog and requested payment, so my husband had to go back to the room to collect his credit card. We pointed out that the dog was in the car and he started shouting at us about "my house, my rules" and was generally very unpleasant, which did not make for a good night's sleep. The next morning he avoided eye contact and we left as soon as we could.

we are so sorry and surprised to read these words and your bad review, it's really in contrast with the general positive feeling about us and our hotel for this season 2016.
Anyway, having said that, we apologize for any misunderstanding that might have appeared rude to your eyes: this review gives us the opportunity to underline and disclose the following facts, hoping that everybody can read and understand our point of view and our way of managing our hotel:
Hotel Fornaci is a small family managed hotel, if you find "chaos" at the reception it's due to the High Season, we just need some time to accomodate everybody, if someone expects the quick (and sometimes impersonal) response of a big hotel... there are plenty of "grand hotels" :-)
We are at 40 minutes walk (and 7 minutes drive) from the very center of Peschiera, how could we possibly lie about it? It's written everywhere, not just on our official website, you can easily see this on the various maps too: you could either choose to walk or reach the center by car. We are very sorry it was raining the day of your arrival but there's nothing we could do about it, and our check-in rules are clear on every website (after 2pm), your room before that time was not available.
Our double rooms are ALL the same size, we are in high season and the Hotel was fully booked concerning the double rooms, we can guarantee there was no larger double rooms available then.
Hotel Fornaci is a fully dog friendly hotel, as anyone can testify, we allow dogs of every size and, according to the size, we decide whether to apply a fee for the dog in the room. You said your dog was sleeping in the car, we saw the dog coming out of your room after the first night (ok, outside it was raining... but your dog slept in the room without us knowing) and we simply asked you to pay the extra fee. We were not "put out" you had a dog, we were maybe surprised he slept in your room without you telling us.
In the end, in our opinion the main issue that caused your unhappy stay was your early arrival in a rainy day which as you write, "should have set off alarm bells"; as a new management we will learn from this situation, and try to prevent misunderstandings in case of early arrivals in rainy days!
