We’ve been to Tuscany before so looked long and hard to find a villa in Tuscany with a pool and in walking distance of a pretty town and Villa Spuntone exceeded our expectations.
A beautiful characterful villa with large grounds, a must have pool and easy walking into one of the prettiest hilltop towns.
The 4th bedroom downstairs next to the kitchen is described as a small bed but this was plenty big enough for our adult daughter & partner. So I’d say it sleeps 8 comfortably.
The villa is very homely and tastefully decorated. The photos are a very good reflection of the property
The kitchen is small but well equipped. We ate all our meals on the lovely patio.
The large dining room might be cosy in winter. The lounge is very comfortable and cosy but we were outside most of the time.
The pool isn’t heated but the water temperature was 24-26c which was fine.
The best bit for us was the location with an easy walk into the beautiful walled town with many lovely ristorantes, cafes, and wine shops. Wine tasting at the fort was excellent.
This is the heart of Brunello with so many fines to sample.
Energy costs were extra - we didn’t use/need air con and only cooked once so the 60€ charge based on meter readings seemed high as did the 140€ cleaning costs but then I’m being picky.
One of the neighbouring properties has 2 dogs which occasionally were annoying with their incessant barking as was heavy lorries driving by at 5am but these didn’t spoil the holiday too much.
Pienza (very pretty smaller hilltop town)and Bagno Vignoni (old roman thermal spa) are just 20-30 mins drive away
I highly recommend the villa.
The pictures of Villa Sputone are very accurate and we were most pleased with our one week stay (albeit time passed too quickly)! Sputone is everything you image when thinking Tuscan charm. It is well appointed with many antiques and we found the home most comfortable for our visit.
The backyard is like a mini park with swimming pool(warm even the last week in May) and a patio with a large table. Imagine starting your day looking out over the beautiful Tuscan landscape while sipping an expresso. Two nights we enjoyed dinner on the back patio. If you choose to dine inside there is china/wine glasses and silverware for 12, seated in a large formal dinning room. There is ample room in the villa for the seven people stated in the advertisement but I would also recommend it for two couples also. Beds were comfortable. The villa is a good value for the price.
We loved the location. An easy walk to Montalcino (about 5-7 min) if you take a short cut thru a parking lot. We walked to/from dinner each night and it was perfect especially after a four course Tuscan meal. My wife and I are 65 years old and the walk was a non-event. This location is also a convenient base for winery visits and day trips. The home is gated but would point out this area and town are extremely safe.
Monica is the local manager on site. She is a sweet heart. Checking in/out was easy. Monica does not speak much English but it was absolutely not an issue. She is very responsive.
Motto grazie for a memorable week in Montalcino.
