A group of us come here every year for a long weekend and Britannia never fails .The hotel,food,staff and setting are all excellent back again in 8 weeks for a wedding and can’t wait .also well worth a mention are the 2 guys doing the pasta at lunch time marvellous.

The rooms were lovely, we had a balcony that looked out directly onto Lake Como and it was simply breathtaking. We mostly ate out, so I can't comment on the food much, but the staff were very friendly and we were provided with packed lunches one day when we were going on a trip. We went slightly off season, so unfortunately we didn't get to use the pool, but it looked lush!

Room Tip: Definitely try to get a front facing room!

We have just returned from a 17 day holiday with Shearings Holidays .We had no problem with our drivers on our way there and on return journey,we found them very friendly and had a good knowledge of the area . After a overnight stay in France we arrived at our hotel on the evening , our room was ok a bit dated and the t.v was very small but hey we don't spend much time in our room .The food was ok and the staff we found to be hard working and friendly . We like to have a drink or two on an evening and as we were all inclusive why not , we discovered that you could not get a drink at the pool bar after 6pm , only at the bar below stairs of the hotel ,we could then sit on the sun terrace on floor 3 with our drinks . how disappointed we were to see the very tatty broken chairs on this terrace which had amazing views of the lake and beyond , Britannia this needs attention ASAP what a dam shame . We did have a nice holiday in Como but i would not return to this hotel .

Booked on line before reading the TripA reviews and then they scared us....well I was scared of my family's raction. Got there and there were three (3) people in reception and one was fluent in english from growing up in the UK. The room doors were open when we got there and it was obvious they were not 100% ready...BUT, without even asking the housekeeping staff popped up in minutes and insisted on the final touches (we were indifferent as we were so tired), but very appreciative. Our package did not have dinner, but we had dinner in the hotel.....buffet style, they worked out the pricing and did not over charge us (very appreciative again).. The wait staff were great and the chef made special meal for my daughter The pool was great, but charge for towels ....assume its operated by a 1/3rd party. Ferry service to/from Vanerra or Bellagio......ask for Ferry to all the stops here as they are only 10 mins apart and can save you hour plus in time.

Spent Father’s Day weekend at The Grand Hotel Britannia Excelsior Luxury Apartment. While the hotel is advertised as a 3-star, the apartment claims 5-stars. This is not the case. We travel quite often as a family (2x girls age 6 & 9, mom and dad). In our many travels we have learned that paying a little bit extra is often worth it. Higher rated places tend to have additional security features, a more attentive staff, are in safer neighborhoods, and tend to put in a little more emphasis on small details to make traveling fun and relaxing.

The 5-star rating for the luxury apartments is simply an overstatement. The apartment we rented was not exceptionally clean, nor was it cleaned during our 3 night stay. However, we were charged a 25€ daily cleaning fee upon checkout. A few disappointments to note:
1. Dirty dishes in the dishwasher
2. Broken toilet that continuously runs
3. Broken handle on door to balcony, potentially a security issue.
4. 2x towels provided per day for a 4x person booking.
5. Terrible daily breakfast at the hotel (the apartment has a kitchen though, so this could be overlooked). But bring your own coffee as none is provided
6. Nickel and dime fees everywhere on the property. (Swimming is free, but you have to wear a swim cap available for purchase 3€. You cannot use the hotel towels, but you can rent pool towels, 8€. You must pay to sit in a chair by the pool, 5€ per chair. And again the daily cleaning fee for a service that was not provided.)
7. There is a very busy road immediately outside the apartment that you must cross repeatedly daily. This is quite dangerous for everyone, but especially concerning for a family with young children.

Last, and overall our disappointment was only with the advertised 5-star facility that we paid a 5-star price for. Lake Como is beautiful and we enjoyed ourselves. The beautiful town of Bellagio is an easy ferry ride away and there are a few wonderful little cafes and shops in the immediate vicinity. But this apartment is at best a 3-star accommodation.
