“A most enjoyable break”
Reviewed 12 April 2018 for a stay in April 2018

We had a long weekend at La Tour, which is a delightfully quirky property laid out over three floors, ideal for two people. Everything necessary for a comfortable and restful stay is provided - even down to the Lafuma deckchairs for the suntrap that is the garden! The three floors are linked by a spiral staircase, with a well equipped bathroom in the 'basement', a comfortable bedroom with an excellent large bed on the next level and, at ground level, a light and airy seating area and kitchen. The owner, Genevieve, could not have been more helpful, showing us round the property and helping address any questions during our stay. We would have no hesitation in booking a future visit.

“Somewhere to put a smile on your face......”
Reviewed 1 August 2017 for a stay in July 2017

La Tour is a brilliant place to stay and Genevieve an excellent host, but you do need to take in to account its foibles, namely the stairs and the plumbing.
The staircases have no two steps the same, either size, angle or distance apart, this is amusing when fully awake and challenging for nocturnal visits to the loo. The second staircase has a malevolent step that I am sure moves up and down the flight with the sole purpose to catch you out.
Plumbing in a building this age is always an add on, and although Genevieve will instruct you how to avoid the building fighting back you do need to be aware of its delicacy. The best advice we can give is not to surprise it, one thing at a time and you will be safe.
The rewards for coping with these minor inconveniences is a lovely sheltered garden, total peace and quiet for an excellent night’s sleep, in the perfect location to explore the town.

“Unique, and a great place to spend a few days”

My wife and I have upped our game since the kids finished University and will happily spend a little extra to stay somewhere a little different or a bit special. With this in mind we booked La Tour for three nights in June and were not disappointed.
There is much talk in previous reviews of the bathroom ,which certainly is stunning and Madam made great use of the atrium while taking her ease in the bubbles, to call for supplies (further bubbles mostly - the champagne variety) which my creaky knees dutifully carried down the two flights of stairs.
The bedroom's pretty good too, as is the bijou kitchen diner at ground level. We didn't have the weather for sitting outside in the garden but enjoyed a great short break in an interesting part of France that we have hurtled through many times before on our way to elsewhere.
We particularly liked Montreuil, patrolled the ramparts once or twice a day in order to repel any potential invaders and were able to explore all the town had to offer on foot from La Tour. There are some terrific restaurants, two good bread shops and a Fromagerie whose proprietor is a bit of a card. We purchased some superb Epoisses and my attempt to sneak a pre dinner snack one night was rumbled by Madam as she picked up the smell two floors down in the bathroom.
Genevieve was a great help prior to our visit and on arrival, and we would very much like to return one day,

but with my fishing rod, to lower supplies from the fridge down to Madam in the bath.

Thanks for allowing us to stay at your beautiful property.

“Perfect weekend away! ”
Reviewed 22 November 2015 for a stay in May 2015

We went here for the May bank holiday 2015 for a romantic weekend break. Perfect location and setting. Building itself had lots of character and the amenities were fabulous. Bathroom was to die for. Genevieve was very helpful and knowledgable on the area. There are plenty of restaurants and historic sights near by. Would recommend to anyone looking for a peaceful European break!

“Magical!”
Reviewed 26 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Really, really gorgeous! The house is beautiful and comfortable. We spent a lot of time sitting outside in that gorgeous garden!
Montreuil-sur-Mer is a really lovely place, and a super easy hour or so drive from Calais (It was the first time I'd ever driven in France and it was great!). The house is located so perfectly in the middle of everything. There's a convenience store around the corner, or a larger supermarket a few minutes drive. There are restaurants dotted all over the place and the Tourism Office has a guide that showcases each one individually if you can't decide what you fancy!
The only minor quibble my partner and I had is that there was a lot of moisture in the air when we arrived and it left everything smelling and feeling quite damp. However, there is a dehumidifier in the bathroom that we had on the whole trip, so within a few hours the damp wasn't an issue any more (You just have to be sure to empty it regularly, particularly before you leave the house or go to bed because it turns itself off once it's full). There was also incense provided in the bathroom, which we really appreciated as the scent could rise up and fill the whole house. We used to mask the damp on that first night and also because we love using incense at home!
Genevieve was really welcoming and helpful, and took away all the fears of renting a holiday property since I'd never done it before!
Overall, our experience was really, really fantastic and I'd thoroughly recommend La Tour!
