“Delightful holiday”
Reviewed 23 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Four middle aged mothers away for a few days, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay in a very French House both in style and furnishings, with wonderful hosts who supplied us with fresh figs, grapes and interesting information about the farm and area we were staying in. This is a good base with plenty of villages, towns and sites to visit within easy reach. We had a very relaxing holiday.

“Beautiful house, wonderful area, when can we come again?”
Reviewed 1 September 2015 for a stay in August 2015

The accommodation is fabulous. A real piece of rural French life. It felt more like you were living in a real home and not just a holiday home. Lise and Edmund were the perfect hosts, nothing was too much trouble and the evening spent in the garden with them was lovely. The children enjoyed the pool and the fact that it was across a very small and quite road was irrelevant. The facilities within the house were excellent, with everything you could wish for. The antique furniture blended perfectly with the modern bathrooms and kitchen and the shaded terrace was perfect for eating at any time of the day. The area has lots to see and do from local markets to historical sights and plenty of wine caves to investigate and sample. The locals were all very friendly with plenty of English spoken although they do appreciate it when you try to speak French. The village is ideally situated within easy reach several major towns and the coast as well as the hills of Provence. We would definitely recommend this gite and intend to book again for next year.

“Charming old house in the a proper French village”
Reviewed 8 August 2015 for a stay in August 2015

A lovely welcome, a characterful house. Our host was so kind to us throughout. We had a very successful holiday - go to the River Gardon at Collias for blissful swimming. One thing to note, though, is that the pool is over the road and through the farm and the view from the terrace is other (old) buildings and sky. Doesn't matter at all to the visit, but worth knowing. In every other respect would thoroughly recommend it.

“Wonderful place to stay”
Reviewed 11 July 2015 for a stay in July 2015

Sabine took our booking, she was very helpful, it was all booked and sorted without any fuss. When we arrived Lise showed us to our gites she is a lovely lady, it is a mix of modern and authentic French style, very specious and comfortable. It is fully equipped with everything you need. The terrace stayed in shade most of the day which was great, still nice and hot. The pool was perfect too, plenty of shade under the olive trees, a lovely relaxing area, you can play table tennis and other games if you want to, Emy the dog comes to say hello which was nice.. The area is beautiful, we visited Uzes on Saturday which is market day. You will find many shops bars and restaurants here. There is a Cave to buy your wine within walking distance and bakers, spar and tobac a short drive away. Lise et Edmond are very helpful, they will do what they can to make your stay a good one. I highly recommend a stay here.

“Authentic retreat”
Reviewed 6 July 2015 for a stay in June 2015

The Winemakers cottage is on a tiny road just 30m away from the owners courtyard and another 20m away from the pool. The owner, Lise is very welcoming and speaks a little English. The property is so authenic and there is much quality in the kitchen and bathrooms. There was always hot water. The cottage can appear a liitle dark initialy, but as your holiday progresses, you welcome this because of the temperatures of the Languadoc. There is a spacious front terrace, which is really superb, albeit not much of of view.
The pool is a good size for swimming and no unpleasant tastes. Loungers. And a table tennis table which Lise brought into the garden area!!
Went to the Wine Cooperative 200m walk away and found the wine really good for the price - although went to some other great winneries in the locality.
Really liked the hospitality; the authenicity; the cool shady terrace; the pool and ping pong.
The only negatives are the lack of view from the terrace and no shop in the hamlet of St Dezery.
But if these negatives dont put you off, we loved the Winemaker's cottage and would thoroughly recommend.

We are glad you had an enjoyable experience. Yes the traditional -and ecological- way of living in hot areas is to maintain a darker atmosphere, close windows and shutters during the warm hours of the day to keep the sun and hot air outside and open everything in the evening to let the cooler breathe in. The thick walls offering good insulations. Propitious atmosphere to the famous siesta!
