Sanel (owner) opened the restaurant especially for our group of 40+. Normally it's closed on a Monday. Sanel provided a varied menu for pre-ordering. All were highly complimentary about the quality of the food and the ambience. The location was ideal as we were staying at Mimosa Lodge across the road. Highly recommended.

This place. Authentic South African fare, a cut way above the others. Comfort food at another level. Small, intimate, with utterly charming staff. The food was beyond delicious--succulent locally-raised lamb with tender veg, home-baked rolls, and all quite reasonably priced. I was so happy when our server emailed me the recipe for her mosbolletjies--I could have eaten a dozen. Probably our best meal of our entire trip. If you're anywhere near Montagu, do not pass this up.

We visited the restaurant with two other couples over the Easter weekend. We were happy to be able to get a booking. The service was smart and effective and out waitress made sure we had what we wanted. The food was really great and the kind of old world fine dining you would not expect from the platteland. That same weekend, Sanel also catered our wedding. The spread was spectacular and delightfully vegan. Thank you! Montagu delivers to high standards!

We had the most incredible meal here! As vegetarians we were pleasantly surprised to find that almost half of the mains were vegetarian. Make sure to order the waterblommetjie daltjies. It's one of the most delicious meals that I've ever had.

We had been informed that this was the place to eat. The greeting on arrival was good our friends were waith for us .
When the wine arrived it was not presented and asked if it was correct it was opened and then asked who was having wine. We ordered starters, the terriene was fair, the soup starter was a bit tasteless. We ordered a second bottle of wine and again it was just opened without consultation. The mains arrived and were disappointing. The steaks were covered with a sweet basting sauce, the artichoke pasta was tasteless and the venison risotto was like a shredded venison stew on top of rice. The only highlight of the meal was the mimosa wine. I will not return
