If you are in Huancayo, you will probably visit this park just because everyone does. However, the surroundings are very busy, lots of traffic and noisy. Not a lot of nature around it. The arches are nice and of course feeding the pigeons is an enjoyable past time here. Take your time, walk around, and make the best of it.

Amazing place to visit with your family and friends, is really quiet and fun. Nice restaurants close by and you will enjoy the nice local food. Try always to get pachamanca in Huancayo is just simply delicious

Like many central plazas in Peruvian towns (often called Plaza de Armas or Plaza Major) this is a pleasant place to people watch. The church is pretty but the architecture of the other buildings is fairly modern and not particularly scenic.

There is an interesting set of arches - hard to describe - like two arches at 90 degree angles to each other intersecting at the top - like the poles of a dome tent. I enjoyed taking photos of the church through the arches.

Otherwise there are several hotels, tour agencies, and cafes/restaurants surrounding the plaza.

Basically a typical central plaza, pleasant but nothing spectacular.

Our hotel was close to this park and it was a nice park to walk through on our way to other things, but it did not seem to be a place to stop and spend time. There are some nice surrounding buildings worth snapping a few pictures of, but not sure that I would "recommend" that you seek out this park.

This is a great place to sit and watch people going about there business. There are plenty of benches in the square where you can sit or even have a picnic. People gather here and it is bordered by the cathedral and the main street. It's also where organised trips of the region leave from.

On Sundays there is a raising of the flag ceremony and the square is the focus of all kinds of other civic and military gatherings and ceremonies. While I was there, for example, there was a running race along the main street and the local dignitaries and military big wigs were gathered in the square.
